Many years ago I bought a Carcoon Bike Bubble to do the job. There are much cheaper models available now but they keep a small but constant flow of air passing through it which prevents the rapid change in temperature and thus condensation firming in the bike.

    £2-300 well spent IMHO.

Welcome to the Packtalk club Tony.......looking forward to some riding chat in the future too. Although clearly from your comments in 'that other thread' we'd best avoid footy

Test drove one of these today, seriously thinking of chopping in my Tiger Adventure bike against it, what a comfortable fun ride it was...

Guzzi - They do seem to be persuading a few converts.

I think your photo angle doesn't show off the impressive looks of the bike - it IS a good looking bike

I just feel they lose out on power, centre of gravity and reliability/back-up compared to BMW

I was also very impressed. It's in a three-way tie for me along with the Stelvio and the MV Agusta Turismo Veloce. I've got a few months to think about it, I suppose.

My local bike shop A& D Denbigh have been doing some keen pricing on Mandello’s. They do a lot of distance selling and the facebook page shows lots of V100 happy owners picking up there steeds

    https://www.admotorcycles.co.uk/moto...100-promotion/

They also have a few pre owned in stock too

    Lovely bike by the way

Couple on UKGSER have gone for that. Never seen a deal like it. I remember a silly deal on the Honda Africa Twin when it came out but can’t remember the figures.

One dealer doing the DCT at £79 p/m but this one at £67 p/m seems stupidly cheap too; it’s almost worth parking mine up for two years.

What was the original price? £18k-£20k?

This certainly batters the pre owned mkt for those wishing to sell, as you can try one for two years and then give it back. The annual mileage allowance is low, but this is a Sunday showboating ride, not the thing you take to the Pyrenees for a few weeks.

I’m second guessing myself now re direction but I think the price changed drastically on the Africa twin after launch and the guys who were in early got a stupidly good or bad deal. Good few years ago now. Warlord might have been one of the guys who got one.

Another way of looking at it is that in a couple of years, there’ll be a stock of second hand Nortons coming to the market at £12k, so potentially increasing the second hand values for existing owners of earlier bikes.

Another way of looking at it is that in a couple of years, there’ll be a surplus of second hand Nortons coming to the market.

edit: looks like my local Norton dealer also has (or had) the same deal "Offer available on Norton Commando 961 Sport ordered by 31/12/2024."

Wasn't this the bike that Freddie Dobbs found too uncomfortable to even consider buying?

Could be but, to be honest, I don’t think Norton make enough bikes for there to actually be that many.

The Norton deal is still on, and is available at all dealers. I find my 961 very comfy, last summer they were going for £15K from dealers. I suspect the current offer is to keep the dealers happy and keep the factory busy in the run up to new model launch, which it seems is a little late, compared to what they were saying last summer.

    Question.

Would you buy a heavily discounted new bike which will have full warranty (it’s the 1st generation) or wait a few months for the updated version and pay full price?

Can't say - the answer would depend on a few factors, such as which bike, how much discount, what differences between current and next version.

    I agree.

If, as I suspect, it is a V100, I reckon the loss will be substantial when you sell it, regardless of whether you buy old model or new model.

The question for me is what improvements do you expect on the new model that would make it worth the price difference.

If the model you tried fulfils your requirements then I’d get the cheaper one and ride it as much as I can. And if you decide to change in the future I don’t think the difference in depreciation will be worth several months of enjoying the bike instead of expecting it.

It’s the Moto Guzzi V100S Mondello, I believe the only thing the new one has is the addition of radar cruise control which tbh looks ugly on the 2025 version but I’m sure I’ve read they have tweaked the gearbox. Is it worth paying full whack for that or get one for £4K less?

It’s a Guzzi, it shouldn’t have cruise control anyway!

Save your £4K and buy the current model.

You say that but I distinctly remember my mate’s Le Mans MkI had cruise control (albeit non adaptative). Mind, it could be because the throttle spring was too weak to return to idle on its own

If that's all, I would go with the discounted one...besides, in a couple of years when/if you decide to trade it in for something else I suspect the new one won't have held its value any better than the discounted one.

Today's weather was decent when we set off, but at higher altitude it got a bit messy:

Ah! It looked a bit like a T, but not convincingly.

    180bhp - not too shabby !!

For me the most significant factor - is that Triumph are producing a 180bhp engine, with more torque than a '4'

Perhaps looking at a serious challenge to the BMW S1000XR / KTM 1290GT / Ducati Multistrada ?

    That would be interesting.

Well, sadly the John Doe One had to go back, as it just wasn't the right shape for my head (really hard to get off, producing bright red ears in the process). However, I'm now waiting for this lovely thing to arrive... dual homologated and a whole lot more useful/functional, assuming it fits.

I found Roof to be very short front to back, so visors misting was a big thing. No pinlock either.

    Things may have changed though.

Thanks for that, and I've seen one or two reviews that mentioned it. Apparently it's not a problem on the 2, though, and I also have a pinlocked Arai full face for when it's wet out.

Well played, I was tempted to do the something similar as my local dealer had a used one for a crazy price, they certainly look like bargains now. I ended up leaving with a 765RS after falling in love on the test ride, it’s hard to imagine a sweeter handling bike, and I assumed it’s a better choice around town. But the Speed still intrigues me as I didn’t get the chance to try it. I’d be interested to hear what you think of it once the temperatures pick up.

By all accounts it's an absolute beast. You definitely made a better choice for your use case, though.

That’s good to hear. Mine was an earlier model with the snaps to lock the chin bar. Cool looking helmet, but not the most practical.

If those issues are resolved, then I’d definitely consider another in the future.

I had one of those. The best on the market by far. Reasonably silent, bomb proof and quite easy to carry.

I’ve always liked the look of the roof and the fact you can clear the chin bar right out the way. They are the wrong shape for my head though, or my head is the wrong shape for them.
