Given the cult status of the GS I’d consider that a result for Triumph. As I’ve been saying for some time, the Tiger range is a genuine option, and that includes the 900 for those who struggle with the size and weight of the larger bikes in the genre. Good to see them gaining traction here, too.

Being an English publication, it is frequently no surprise to see Bike magazine try and laud Triumphs.
The GS is not a cult without merit. As good as they have tried, reality is that the new Trumpet 1200 is merely trying to catch up to the now 3 year old 1250GS. And they still fall short. Triumphs lack the engineering prowess and resources of BMW, and the 90 year evolutionary refinement of the venerable boxer. Then there is the dealer network, the pan-European support, and global supply of 3rd party accessories. Triumph will always be second, at best. Next year’s R1300/1400GS will move the goalposts even farther beyond the competition.

Well that was fun!
Picked it up yesterday and put a couple of hundred miles on today.
Cant believe how smooth and responsive it is for a near 25 year old bike.
I have a new Tuono V4 factory to compare it with and for the road its definitely not night and day.
Probably the best biking day ive had in years.

So the brand-new Triumph is only nearly as good as a 10 year-old BMW*.
Result....

OK, the LC`s are a 10 year old design so lets say 4 years for the 1250, but a motorcycle is more than just the engine...

Looks totally original.
Rode my RR-V to work early today (22 miles, mixture of quiet a roads and the A23….it’s still thrilling. Love the sound of the pipes and the way it screams into the powerband.

The only slight issue I had when I bought mine was the original seat was a bit slippy to the point it was distracting. I have it safe obvs but I have put a grippier and squishier Sargent on which despite not changing the handling in any way does allow me to read the bike’s feedback a lot more accurately and worry about other things apart from sliding around. I feel properly planted in/on it now.

Quite a bit of the ride was sedate but i did think how roomy the seat was.
When i did push on i can see how a bit more grip would be useful.
Im surprised about the power delivery. Very linear, gear changes smooth and precise.
Early days but loving it so far.

I was in TBS this afternoon, and Dave said this was one of the nicest Fireblades they have had.

Richard is new, so not met him yet.

James is the owner and very into his bikes. Dave is the manager and does the day to day running of the business. Every bike I have had from them has been spot on - now 5 and counting. Popped in today to see if they still had the Suzuki TL1000R, but it had sold earlier in the week.

That was my feeling when I got mine, for a bike over twenty years old it's so nice, and there is so much value in these bikes. Enjoy!

This is great info, the slippery seat is the only quibble I have with mine, going to investigate 

I'm not sure we can blame the steering rack for the parking fail ;-)

While I'm not overly worried about component failure, I'm starting to get a bit nervous about consumables on my little Toyota.

Front brake pads are £65 a pair and front disks are an eye watering £960.

While my brake consumption isn't that bad, I'm aware of one owner that's got through 5 sets of pads and is on his second set of disks in 6,000 miles.

Great blast out today on the S1000R with my lad on his GSXR 750.

The R has had its first service and I can use all the revs. Bloody hell it’s quick now!

I'm loving this old beauty more and more, I went out for 90 mile blast on Sunday after the clutch rebuild and she's running sweetly. The thing I love about vintage machines is you can really enjoy them without having to wring their neck or do daft speeds, I'd forgotten how well these old CB's can handle!

Loved it when Howard had it, and I'm sure it's an even better bike following your fettling, Duncan. It would be great to arrange a ride-out over the summer.

Just compared that to some more modern profiles and I don't think it's an optical illusion that the forks are raked far more than modern bikes. Will make it a lot more stable, for sure.

I seem to remember that braking could get a bit hairy, especially in the wet. Mind, I may compare to another bike I rode regularly at the time, a Le Mans which was exceptional on that front.

^^^ After getting off my R1200R, CB750 braking can seem hairy even in the in the dry!

There is a fix for that if you want to go down that route! Mind, it’s from 1983 so a little more modern.

Even if the driver lived at either pickup or destination address to minimise miles travelled that a 400 mile round trip at £9 a gallon - lets say for arguments sake he achieved 45mpg thats £80 gone on just fuel.
It`s a 9-hour slog there and back at not even eight quid an hour after fuel has been paid for.
Fair play to them for doing that, or am i missing something?

Ive had my share of bike couriers drop off or collect bikes from me. Rarely seen an empty van , usually two or three bikes plus mine. Think thats the only way they turn a profit. One bike would be a non starter

Lovely day riding around Bucks, Oxfordshire, and the Chilterns with a good riding buddy. Passed through Didcot to see the new Trumpet 1200 GT Pro and Rally Explorer at length then stopped by Henley on the way back.
Just can't get enough of the GS - the suspension and chassis is so well judged for UK roads at pace in either Road or Dynamic modes. The combination of Telelever, Paralever, self-levelling, AND adaptive dampers makes it a comfortable and controlled to ride at any pace.

Yes, the one time Lee Costello delivered to me - he had a ducati at the front of the van. Talking to him, he said that he only ever uses a low-floor van with auto gearbox. Related tales of people tendering on Shiply who have a van of other crap going in roughly the same direction and bungs in a low bid - but the bike just gets jammed in with all the other boxes or whatever (might be okay if it was a mattress delivery). Even one fella who was going on holiday with his combi van - tendered for a job cheaply - and got it.

To be fair, I had my TTR delivered from Shrewsbury to Hertfordshire for £164, by a company called MTM Trans booked via Shiply. It's dead easy to do your due diligence before booking, and they were absolutely superb (and were bikers for the most part, too).
