So a quick update guys, decided that I had to have a Honda Monkey to start with. I couldn’t resist after seeing one in person and was dead set on it being a banana yellow one. I know it might not be the ideal starter 125cc but the heart wants what it wants.

Picked it up a couple of weeks ago and managed to clock up 200 miles so far.

I feel it was the right choice to go 125cc for a while before tackling the DAS. There’s much to learn and practice and I think I’m managing to do that at a more sensible pace.

I'm off to do the Triumph Adventure Experience in Wales on Fri/Sat this week......I've chosen the Tiger 900 Rally Pro as my bike for the 2 days. Will let you know how we get on.

Lovely. The Tiger range is superb, and it’s nice to see more and more TZ bikers demonstrating that there’s adv life outside the BMW stable.

Hope you’re taking a stepladder, Mark.

Managed to find a slightly used standard windscreen for the Guzzi. It's solved the buffeting issues and improved the look of the bike (imo). I'm really enjoying this one.

Lovely morning backroad bimble with Mrs G hanging on. Ended up in Edinburgh for some brunch before saddling up and heading back home (apparently I’ve got gardening to do).

Great pics. I have family in Wexford and really need to get over there.

Fond memories of SuperMacs and Wexford Creamery ice cream. Beautiful.

Me too if I was still riding bikes.
I think the lack of noise from electric vehicles can definitely cause accidents. Yesterday I was walking past a line of parked vehicles and an electric van reversed into me, I barely managed to jump out of the way. I had no idea it was about to reverse as there was no engine running to give it away as occupied and potentially about to move. Not saying I was without any fault or responsibility, but the episode wouldn't have occurred if it made a noise. Apologies for the thread derailment.

Leaving at 5am today my mate and I drove a 740 mile round trip from Abingdon to Falkirk to collect a bike I've wanted since I was a 14 year old schoolboy.

We arrived back about an hour ago, unloaded the bike from the van and I'm absolutely over the moon with it, it's much better than it was described and the photographs of it showed, museum quality to be honest.

To cap it all it's a matching numbers machine it has a complete history file with it going back to the 50's, it's about 5 inches thick and I'm going to enjoy going through it - sad I know!

Any guesses as to what it is (quite easy I think!)?

Well done, you know your vintage machines higham! It's a 1952 Vincent Comet, I can't wait to get out on it and see whether the legendary Vincent handling is actually all it promises to be.

    You weren't wrong Tony......

Brilliant weekend though, great location, great weather, great company. The course is so well run and the instructors are so patient. Would thoroughly recommend.

Despite the Tiger being a very capable machine, I'm not really convinced that it's a great idea to take it off-road.....particularly if you're a tad vertically challenged like me :o).
So for day 2 after getting a bit sick of falling off so much, I switched to a Street Scrambler which I felt much more at home on. The little SS coped just as well with all the obstacles and challenges much to the surprise of all the giants on their Tigers.

Funnily enough you'd never guess what all of the instructors enjoy riding the most off-road e-MTB's.....apparently its the most like the lightweight bikes they all use to ride when younger.

Thanks. Only date left this year is just before I've got a Palmersport track event booked, so will see if anyone else is up for it and plan for next year. and I'd need to buy a lid...and naturally I'd need a bike to go with it and I have definitely not been stalking Hyperstradas for next year return to biking once the lease car goes back.

Beautiful ride out to Shaldon (Nr Teignmouth in Devon) today.

  33. #12983
    Got to the ferry

    Got off the ferry

    Got to destination

    Unloaded mustard

Replaced with wine to avoid having to readjust the pre-load

Got back to ferry to ride home

Idea was to have a riding weekend, but the riding there and back was enough so we spent the 2 weekend days sitting in the garden, drinking wine, eating cheese and playing scrabble.

Absolutely lovely ride out to Epping this morning on The Beast. Left at 8.15, got there at 9.15, had a coffee and a muffin and was home for 10.45. I especially left early to beat the heat, but it was twisting B-roads in glorious sunshine all the way there and back.

Worth mentioning that I was wearing my new Knox Honister mesh jacket today. Embarrassingly it makes 9 (I think I may list some on here), but it's far and away the best jacket I've ever worn. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Also fantastic kit. The Honister is slightly more of a jacket, Ray, but not dissimilar to the Urbane Pro.

    nice Tony.

I am about 15 minutes from Epping tea hut; there are some lovely roads out past Epping. The B184 is a favourite road of mine.

I'm round the corner from there too. Go by it on my weekend walks through Epping forest.

Shame I don't have a bike anymore but constantly looking at R9Ts and debating parking outside!

Lucky b*stards - the roads out there are beautiful. We've been looking at houses in that part of the world, but so far it's looking a bit pricey.

Enoch I was talking to an R18 owner in Inverary at a bike meet. I commented on the bike as it was the first R18 I had seen out on the road. He liked his , up until 1 1/2 hrs of riding when he said he had to get off. Very limited rear suspension plus upright FF pegs meant it was too uncomfortable after that. Suprised me that !

I was st the 1066 cafe this morning and BMW were doing test rides on the R18; they had a dozen of the things lined up outside the cafe in a few of their various guises. My impression was long, low and very wide Harley wannabes.

A couple of hours hustling round the lanes of the Peak District? Stop and take a pic of the bike with Chrome Hill in the background? Why not.
