    The new Suzuki Jimny

I'm a big fan of these and will certainly be considering one, it looks like a baby G-wagen.

I’ve been keeping an eye on this too. I think they have handled the update perfectly.

We rented a tired old style Jimmy when on holiday in the Greek islands last year, Ive not had so much fun in a car in decades! It felt bullet proof and the ultra low FWD mode was a noisy hoot to drive! Felt like it could go up some crazy slopes.
    Cheers..

Like others we've hired them before in Greece, looks like it's time to become a 'convert'.

I always wondered why they didn't call it a Jimmy.
Maybe a similar reason to why there was a Toyota Starion, pronunciation issues.

Looks like an ideal 4x4 for taking a dog and your gear in when you don't need anything bigger.

I’ve always liked them and always hated the stuck up British attitude to these great little vehicles
Go anywhere in Europe and they are highly regarded and used by Police, mountain rescue, farmers, climbers, local utilities and public services virtually anyone you would think of who needs something good in all weathers and conditions
    If I didn’t have a 4x4 Hilux I’d have one in a heartbeat

I think that looks ace. I've always fancied an old Jimny, over with oversized tyres that look like it conquer any terrain.

What a great little thing. Will be having one of those, and with a lift off roof (please Suzuki) that would be a perfect general purpose mini-truck, with the D4 for longer runs.

I've owned one: Jimny's predecessor: a Samurai (although I'm not sure that it's know under that name all over the world). I had that car for two years or so, at the turn of the century. I sold it - but I still don't know why! Even today - after looking at these pics - I think I did the wrong thing selling it. In short: get yourself a Jimny and you'll have a friend for life!

Rented the old model soft top in Cyprus many years ago. A hoot to drive and could go almost anywhere. Sadly too small for me and 3 kids.

I’m very keen on one - I am sure they are going to be very popular and sought after initially, already had lots of positive press.

I hope the inevitable success brings a long wheelbased and commercial variant. I’m tired of waiting for the new defender but I can’t see it being better than this and with all the JLR build quality issues I think I would take the Jimny all day long at only a fraction of the cost.

Does look very cool doesn’t it. Think the old one was actually quite capable so could perform well too

Yes, I’d removed the rear seats and still it was a problem to get the weekly shopping items in.

Have already decided to test one of these against:

Honda Pioneer 1000 5 seater or a pick up.

I'm sure any of the above would be good, but could be the difference between a brand new Jimny or a used pick up, and the Jimny might just be great for the farm and taking people around.
It's just a matter of time...

Quite a few of us have driven the privious model and are aware of its limitations.

I’m hoping that my wife will go for one of these. I’m not interested in the Evoques, X3s, Q3s etc. as you see them everywhere whereas the Jimmy is a proper 4x4 and a bit of a left field choice which I like. Looking forward to test driving one.

I’ve always loved these; quite like the old school Panda 4x4 too. This looks great. Quite like the new Jeep Renegade as well. If I could go for a winter car I’d love one of these.

Link...for 2019: With the rear seats in place the new Jimny boasts 85 litres of bootspace, though this expands to 377 litres with the rear bench folded flat – 53 litres larger than before, and totally flat too.

Edit Another link...Suzuki has now confirmed a few key tech specs of the new Jimny:

    • Low-range transfer box with choice of 2H, 4H and 4L
    • 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine under that clamshell bonnet
    • Choice of five-speed manual or four-speed auto gearbox
    • Hill-hold control and hill descent control standard
    • Latest tech including traffic sign recognition

How well might an auto box work out in the country?

    Update ICYMI...another YouTube link.

    Auto can be fine.

Lots are are used in Australia as manuals are not as common.

Won't be available in the U.S.

Biggest engine is 100 bhp (no turbo).

I take it with a 1.5l petrol engine you won’t be able to tow much?

I had a 3 month love affair with an old Jimny and miss her very much. RIP head gasket went and it was eventually bought by a Romanian chap who fixed them up and sent them back to work on the fields in eastern Europe.

Yes. It's a bit longer but the width is unchanged.

my friend had a samurai 1000 it would go anywhere once we pulled out a nissan patrol that had got stuck in sand

According to one of the article linked above (2019 Suzuki Jimny SUV - European specifications revealed):

At 3,645 mm from the front bumper to the spare wheel cover the new Jimny is exactly the same length as before. It stands a little wider at 1,645 mm across though, and 20 mm taller too at 1,725 mm. Ground clearance comes in at 210 mm.

    And yet Auto Express say

Size-wise, the UK-bound Sierra model is 50mm longer and 45mm taller than before, while the wheelbase and width stay unchanged.
I suppose we'll have to wait and see.

Having used a number of different off-roaders in anger, I’d choose auto over manual every time...👍
