Even if the barman was wearing something noticeable I would immediately plead ignorance and say it was a fake but then talk about my boss who has a real one and then mention I'd love to afford a real one some day.

It’s what I thought too....
I was in NY for my 30th and sat at the bar with a friend after a meal wearing my 16610 LV.
I was offered a drink by a guy who sat beside me, I declined.
He said it was an insult where he was from, he looked a bit tasty with his fists so we accepted thinking ok should be fine.
He never touched or was anywhere near the drinks but the barmaid spiked them.
THANK GOD, our wives were still sitting at the booth where we had our meal, my mate and I couldn’t stand within 10 minutes. We were basically dragged to a taxi and our rooms by our wives.
Ill take my chances insulting anyone if I was offered again.

I didn't feel vulnerable in Amsterdam wearing a sub. That said, it was hidden under a sleeve for most of the weekend.
I've never had an experience of the barman striking up a conversation about a watch. If it happened I probably wouldn't
be overly guarded about it.
