    CWC W10 Navigator 70s (automatic)

    Anyone with any experience of this model?

    https://www.cwcwatch.com/collections...h-1970s-remake

    Googled about a few days ago but couldn’t find much that’s been said about it.

    Whilst I love the look of the 70s Navigator, I’d probably be happy enough with a regular quartz one - but for the fact that I require both an acrylic crystal and a date. At the moment, it’s either one or the other in terms of CWC GS watches - unless you go for the ‘70s style automatic.

    Currently have a PRS-29a for the same purpose and, though it looks great and I have been very impressed with the quality of manufacture, I need a date and either a quartz or automatic movement.

    Thats weird, they did used to do a G10 navigator with date and acrylic. Maybe look for one of those on ebay, tons on there all the time, great watches.

    With an ETA 2824? I wouldn't say so.

    i certainly wouldnt spend 449 of my watch money on that thing. doesn't matter even if its the last ETA on earth.

    Is this because you don't think CWC are very good quality, or perhaps because of their recent price rises?

    Of course, I would rather it was cheaper - but it is a 2824 powered watch with acrylic crystal, date, from a brand with genuine heritage... As much as it's a considerable amount of money, what else should I buy? My trouble is that field-type watches are usually dateless and, if mechanical, hand-wound.

    Automatic, date, and acrylic crystal is a rare combination in new watches.

    Edit: it's only about £100 more than the PRS-29a, and I think an automatic movement justifies that.

    i like cwc, but look at the spec. acrylic, no screw crown, 5atm wr, lume isnt much to write home about

    ok, the design is much loved and a classic, but even for that money, what are you getting?

    they are what they are, a basic watch

    current rrp makes them more of a goodbye than a good buy imo

    there are so many better ways you can spend that money

    just my 0.02p
    Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

    I have one of these.

    I posted a rather poor picture of it in last Friday’s WRUW thread.

    I bought mine second hand and have had it a couple of years.

    The positives (from my perspective):

    - is very similar to the issued W10 from the 70s and 80s maybe just a little thicker and more angular in profile;

    - has a date - I’ve got more important things to put in my head then the current date, that’s what my watch is for;

    - no screw down crowns to cross thread. In my view, screw down crowns only belong on quartz watches where I have to change date or time no more than once a month. Besides I’ll wear a dive watch when I go diving.

    - it has a plastic crystal just like my issued CWCs. The more of a WIS I become the more I like a hesalite crystal;

    - it’s automatic so I don’t have to keep reminding myself to wind it;

    - I can wear it when I don’t want to risk a vintage watch.

    The negatives:

    - it’s not issued so it doesn’t have the history.

    - um...err...nothing else really.

    In my view one could get a lot less for one’s money by buying something else.

    But then that is just my view...there are others.

    Thanks for the reply... your reasons for liking it tell me that it would probably be well suited to me...
