Gold (colour) mesh for vintage Omega De Ville?

Afternoon TZ,

I bought my other half a vintage De Ville earlier in the year to get her to stop moaning about my watch obsession. It worked .

She loves the watch but not the strap, and thinks she'd like a gold coloured mesh to match the gold plated watch. I've never worn or bought a mesh, so bit clueless on this front, and would appreciate any help:

1. Lug width of the watch is 14mm - do you get the same width mesh or do you buy them slightly smaller (just wondering how you'll ever get it off if it's perfectly flush).
2. Do they come in different lengths, or one length? From googling it looks like you can slide the buckle along to adjust - do you remove any excess?
