    Omph!
Makes me want to cry remembering the prices I used to see in that window
    I remember seeing a Greenlander for £900 10 years ago, now £5995!!!!!
    Omega 56s were £300
On the plus side I paid £50 for my Eterna WWW about 5 years ago.

The price seems ridiculous especially the Longines, at least 200%.

When you see the prices of military and a lot of vintage watches are going for today makes you glad you got into this hobby early. Think I added two wristwatches a civilian and a issued one that was a project still in progress and two Military clocks a deck clock and chronometer military clocks are some times under the radar so a good way to get a military timepiece fix this year only buy deals and there harder to find I am defiantly slowing down. Now does that shop if you show up in person do they let you haggle on price or are they firm ?

    Austin kaye haggle????
    No chance...
It's in prime position on the Strand
They might knock 50 quid off but that will be you lot. They are relying on a rich tourist walking past and taking a fancy to something in their very nice window display. It is one of the best watch shops in London for window shopping.

Does anyone recall a few years ago AK was promoting and selling MWC 'military watches' ? I stopped buying from them when I saw the MWCs in their window.

How long ago? I can't say I remember them and I suppose I've been licking the windows, on and off, for about 10 years.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

I bought a JLC WWW for £5 from Keys Govt. Surplus, Bells Rd, Gorleston-on-Sea in 1967 … but in those days I knew nothing about watches. Dealer had other WWW watches e.g. Omega, … and a modern Hamilton.

Eye watering prices! If you are looking for ‘reasonably’ priced issued watches that actually were worn during WWII but don’t seem to get the collector attention at present, then I think the ATP watches are still a good bet. Due to their plated cases, not easy to find in great condition, but this is part of their charm.

I always forget about that when looking to buy really old watches... If i were to start collecting watches with Radium lune, would it be smart to invest in some sort of lead lined watch box?

You don’t need lead, but a metal box is a good idea. At least as important is good ventilation to clear away the radon gas which the radium slowly decays into.

Also watch out for the lume crumbling and leaving particles of radioactive dust on the dial and in the movement. If you shine a UV torch on the watch sometimes you can see small pieces of lume that have broken away.

As I've posted elsewhere, an intact Ra lumunised watch isn't much of a hazard. Until, that is, you need to open it for servicing. Then the hazard increases greatly and has the potential to affect more people. The MOD spent a lot of our money replacing and getting rid of its Ra luminised equipment. They did it, IMO, for a very good reason...Ra is nasty stuff. I wouldn't want it in the same house as any children...there are plenty of other good looking watches without any Ra attached (or floating about).
