    SOTC - it’s been a while

So been a good few months and quite a few changes so thought I’d do a quick SOTC update. Apart from a long standing itch for aTudor sub I think I’m happy with the collection now. Anyway I’ll keep it word light and pic heavy. Still a heavy bias to Tudor and Steinhart but with a bit more variety now I think, ...
most recent addition and sadly off getting the date function seen to, hope it’s back soon

    vintage Longines from 1969

    BBChrono

    ETA 2liner Pelagos

    GS GMT

Speedy moonphase with white gold bezel

    GO Panoreserve mk1

    SMPc blue

    Fortis B52 gmt

    mm300 sbdx017

    Tudor heritage Chrono

    BBred ETA

    Breitling SOH 42mm

    Steinhart Marine Officer Blue

    Steinhart Ocean white Panam

    steinhart Odisea gmt

    steinhart Black Sea gmt

    steinhart ocean1 hulk old logo

    steinhart old logo 39mm gmt

    steinhart ocean1red

Only one not showing is the Tudor BB58 which the funds are there for but not at the AD yet for collection. If you made it this far well done! No doubt more changes will happen but I feel kinda done at the moment - quite contented

Thanks, I accidentally created the post half way through lol. Have added the rest now 🤣. Been a while since I went into the arcade. Bit like an alcoholic avoiding pubs really!

Very nice collection, especially like the new gmt and the GO. Saw a couple of pics of the gmt on the Kaufmann, suits it nicely.

Great collection. Tudor knocking it out of the park with multiple great-looking, good value, very capable watches there. GS & GO both classy & visually interesting.

Just refreshed to see the rest of the collection you added! That Seiko Marinemaster is a handsome beast.

Very nice Rusty, bit of a Tudor collection building there. Is the new Pepsi GMT living up to expectations (and the hype). Also some extremely rare Steinharts there as well.

The new Tudor gmt exceeded my expectations visually and in comfort terms? Sadly a date change malfunction means it’s at the Tudor service centre getting a repair

Thanks yes the marinemaster has had a surprising amount of wrist time since it arrived. I think the hot weather and the fact it’s on a super comfy crafter blue rubber helped in that regard

Some great pieces in there, we don't see enough GO around these parts and that Superocean is properly lovely.

    Which jeweller sells them?

I remember Ernest Jones in Silverburn was a GO agent back in 2009 for about a year or so until they stopped selling them- manager told me they only sold 3 GO's during that time.

    Nice collection

Do the Steinhart GMT's have the independent hour hand?

They are ETA 2893 movements so for them you pop crown out one click and rotate one direction to change date and the other direction to move the gmt hand. I believe the Rolex and Tudor are known as “true GMT”s but the ETA movement is slightly different.

The Tudor/Rolex actually better for travel, but the ETA version more convenient for quick date adjustment

Heathly number of gmt’s, my new favourite complication!

Really like the breitling SOH, refreshingly clean dial

Great collection, putting the steinharts along side the tudors ,in terms of quality how far away do you think the steinharts are ,there values would suggest a long way but I’ve always been impressed with steinhart

Some lovely pieces there Rusty. Just how much ahead are Tudor watch compared to the Steinhart watches? Is it as much as the price point suggests?

Also to put you on the spot which of the two brands would you choose to keep if you could only have one of them?

If I had to choose one I’d choose Tudor.
The steinharts I have owned (30+) have all run to within +/- 10 sec a day, they are easily the best value watch I’ve seen or worn, and they are incredibly robust and reliable.

Where the difference in quality is imho is the case finishing and the bracelet quality. If steinhart never made a homage watch and did only original designs then £1000 per watch would not be unreasonable for what you get. They also hold their secondary value very well (a used Odisea just sold on eBay for £980 - rrp was £340).

It’s a difficult question. Tudor finish is better - is it 5x the price better? Probably not. I just don’t know if Steinhart is underpriced or if Tudor are overpriced.....

Steinhart is a better value watch. Tudor is a better watch. Think that covers it

Lovely collection. We have a few overlapping pieces there: Tudors and Fortis.

In the list there, my favourite (that I don’t have) is the GO. I tried the PanoReserve, Inverse and Lunar at Zurich Airport on the way back from my last ski trip. I will have one at some point.

I was really looking for the lunar but couldn’t find one, but am very happy with the reserve. Which one did you prefer on the wrist ?

Thanks - it’s 36mm but wears like 39mm because the visible dial goes all the way to the edge of the case almost. (Similar to junghans max bills)

I loved the Inverse grey dial and its Geneva stripes but felt that it was less readable than the others. I think the dial track is smaller than the other models.

I don’t have either a PR or a moon phase currently but it’s not that simple a choice to opt for one over the other as the PR has the manually wound movement and the moon phase is an auto.

I think I’d opt for the moon phase but then I have the choice of silver, blue or grey dials. White is dressier and I have a couple of white dials (IWC Spitfire Chrono and the Heritage Chrono like yours) but that blue with blue strap is beautiful. And that’s as much as I can decide!

Great collection! Love the GS and the Longines. Looking forward to seeing the BB58 too. But the strap on that Heritage Chrono is something else, just perfect! Great find.
