No preserver, not if it's tanalised
What kind of finish do you want
Is the wood greenish at the moment?
I've just had a pergola and shed put up in the garden, both pressure treated and tanalised.
The guy installing the shed told me to oil them with the best stuff I could afford straight away, however there seems to be a lot of different oils on the market.
Anyone with any experience? Do I need to apply a preserver first?
Any help appreciated

Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Is that Morning Wood's brother?
Sorry, I'll get my coat...........
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
If it's tantalised then it does need protection from the elements so you are looking for something like a wood stain (in which case Osma do a massive selection) or you can use Rustins Danish Oil for a more natural finish.
Other brands are available, but I have found these to be the best.
Another alternative would be to paint it.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

I've used the Osmo UV plus on red cedar cladding, amazing stuff. Trade price about £40 a tin. If you want to use oil look at Liberon oils, not sure what their external one is but the internal stuff is superb.
Personally I would use the Osmo UV plus for a pergola

I stained my garage doors with osmo polyx 10 years ago. I hadn't needed to touch them since. The osmo stuff is pricy but you get what you pay for. I'm using the osmo oil paint on the workshop I'm building at the moment
Don't forget to sling a picture up 😁
Theres 2 types of treatment, Tanalith or Vacvac.
The green stuff is tanalith and suitable for full exposure or constant contact with moisture. Vacvac is the yellow treatment and for semi exposed areas, shed framing, carports and the like.
There is zero urgency to oil either. Its just an aesthetic thing.
Excellent thread, that's the new gates sorted for me :)
although treated its still wise to oil as this will extend the life. John
