    New Watch Itch

I’ve got a serious itch to get a new watch.

Ideally after a daily wearer, something that looks equally as good on a strap or NATO. Black dial proffered would’ve be great if it had a date and/or chrono
I like a tool watch, maximum size of about 38mm as I have tiny wrists
Budget is upto a £1000 and I really like the look of the Sinn 356 which seems to go for around that on eBay

Any other ideas? Happy to go with vintage / second hand to stretch the budget

    Sinn is a great call.

Look at the non-square cased Bell & Ross too; not received wisdom on this forum, but most of that is born of brand prejudice and if you see/handle/use their watches, they’re impressive at the price point (and beyond). Some made by Sinn, too.

The watch you’ve posted looks cool, definitely one to do a bit of research on...

Chrono option at 38mm is a big challenge if you want mechanical.

Broadarrow prs5 used at around £450 might be one of your few choices.

I agree that this is a great choice, although it is quartz, if that matters.

One on Chrono24 from Germany for £800, close to the amount I paid from SC

That B&R does look nice. If you can live without a date and chrono feature, you can’t do much worse than a Smiths PRS29a. Alternatively, Ewan will be releasing his Newmark reissue soon:

Sinn wise I keep looking at the 104 St Sa... personally I prefer the white dial but this would be my recommendation

EDIT - Ignore just see you are looking for 38mm

The 104 is lovely too - i'm used to wearing smaller watches so that was what ruled it out. Its a shame there are no bricks and mortar Sinn stockists to try a few out - i'm sure they all wear in a way that raw case diameter doesn't account for

Cheap and cool option is a seagull 1963 hand wind chrono. Available for £200 new on the NATO.

Call no man happy till he's dead.

Personally I think that 104 will wear a lot smaller due to the size of dial and bezel thickness, actually the urban gentry has a review on one of these and his wrists are like cocktail sticks!

    SMP Reduced?

Not sure what size is is, but I have the regular 41/42mm and it wears small due to the thin case.

you couldn't go wrong with a 39mm Oris Aquis as well

A Moonwatch is on the wishlist - think i'd rather wait and save for that than go for a reduced version

Good luck getting a decent Speedmaster reduced for less than a £1k, they are starting to go up in value..

If you are happy with a Speedy Pro then 38mm is not your ideal size as these come in at 42mm, suits me though and I have just under 7" wrists..

Interesting looking watch. Does it have 2 luminous bezel pips? I’ve not seen this before if it has.

I've enjoyed a few of the Revue Thommen Airspeed models, both in quartz and auto (Lemania 5100) centre minute chronograph versions. The quartz is 37.5mm and the auto is 38.5mm. There's was also a Valjoux 7750 model, though I'd not bother with that, personally. I reviewed the quartz version here: https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...-Chrono-Quartz. They look good on straps, bracelet and NATOs.

There are a few of the quartz versions available on eBay at pretty attractive prices - even allowing for VAT and import duty add-on costs.

You do occasionally come across the Lemania 5100 versions, which have the advantages of the day as well as the date window, and a countdown rather than a 0-60 dive bezel. I had one before, enjoyed it, sold it and regretted the sale. Then I recently bought another one, near mint, as I was trying to work out whether to sell my (larger) Fortis Lemania 5100 chrono and apply the funds to another sometime grail. I now don't think I'll be doing that, which may make the Revue Thommen surplus to requirements, and if I do sell it would be priced not too far away from your budget.

The pics below are the two together - the quartz is the blue dial in the picture of both together - and then each on a NATO.

You really can't go too far wrong with a 7750 powered Sinn.

Looking forward to getting it on the wrist. Just need to order a nice strap - was thinking something in dark grey might be good

It'll break in, it's leather. Give it a month on and it'll be supple and moulded to you.

Switched out onto a Gekota 2 piece fabric strap

Feels a more comfortable and sits much lower than the nato
