Here's the SGBT021 that's long discontinued. It's the only black on black, capped second hands, and applied rice minute markers. It's probably too much effort to make them like this anymore.

This may be a short-lived thread. But if it is to thrive at all, TZ-UK Watch Talk is surely its only chance.
Elsewhere I mentioned my appreciation of the capped seconds hands on my Grand Seiko quartz. Go here https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...=1#post4798069 for that post, and a few more pics. Someone asked what I meant, so for anyone else wondering...
Compare the centre of the seconds hand on this, my Grand Seiko SBGT019 from 1993:
... to the centre of the seconds hand on this, my old SBGR055, where you can clearly see a hole:
It is a small detail, but I think the capped version looks finer. It does not exist on any of my other watches. Not Rolex, Omega, IWC, nor even later Grand Seikos - including the 25th anniversary version of my SBGT019. But some Spring Drives and GS Hi-Beat autos do still use capped seconds hands.
So I was wondering, what other models do you have with this nice little feature?

So, like this, you mean?
Now you have to guess what it is!

Had one. Sold it.
...is it only Grand Seiko that do this
z
Not even close, Hugh. Far more prosaic...

How about an older example? A Grand Seiko 6145-8050 from 1972.

In thirty years of collecting watches, I never even knew this was a thing!
A few years ago I made a set of hands for an old pocket watch.
The second hand has no hole - it was turned and filed from solid, rather than made with a riveted pipe.
That is of course more expensive and mass production ( even for expensive watches) demands cheap and simple - something stamped hands with riveted pipes are.
The thread is here http://forums.watchuseek.com/forum.p...1927170?page=1 over on watchuseek for those who are interested.
Soon I’ll get my workshop sorted again and make some more cool stuff

Here's the SBGA041 with capped second hand, and capped power reserve hand too. Sublime.

Interesting topic, it’s all in the details after all.
None of my watches have this feature, and at this point it looks like only Seiko do it on their high end watches...

The sublime SBGX009 that I wrote a bit about here:
Interestingly, unlike other reports on this thread, the current version of this watch (now the SBGX209, with only "GS Grand Seiko" on the dial) does still glory in a capped seconds hand.
That is really nice, and Seiko wisely chose to fit white-on-black day and date discs too. As this thread didn't immediately plummet, perhaps I should go for something even more obscure. The "Show us your applied minute markers!" thread may yet happen
It doesn't seem to be a thing on Swiss watches, at least not for any in my admittedly mid-range collection. (Does anyone own a Swiss watch with this feature?) Here's my IWC 3227 for example:
Non-capped, and the finishing a bit rough compared to the GS earlier in this thread, especially underneath.
Nice picture and watch, and thank you for the info on this and the Credor too.
Good to know... I was lamenting its absence on most of the modern GS quartz I have seen. I'm not sure what criteria Grand Seiko use for it. It is often on the Spring Drive and Hi-Beat autos, less often on the recent quartz and "normal" automatics it seems. I'm happy when I see one. Once seen, it is hard not to notice it. Or its absence.

Interesting thread keep the photos coming.
Not seen one in the flesh yet
Right, since I've just mastered uploading photos.
I thought I might join in, even if my qualification is a little tenuous.....
In my defence, it does kind of do the seconds.
Whilst also covering the minutes.
and the hours....
(Oops. Please forgive my first stab at a close up, will try to focus in the right place next time)
Just realised my SBGA031 diver has a capped second hand with what appears to be a tiny detent in the centre.
