Thread: Braun Watches

    Braun Watches

I did a search, and though there are some sales threads and whatnot there's never been a brutal dissection of Braun's product line (that I can find anyway).

Anybody want to discuss the seemingly marginalised-yet-enormous German brand who've won design awards for their timepieces? They've taken the German aesthetic to the furthest possible point and squeezed any personality out, but aren't they masterpieces due to this?

I realise they're quite pricey for what they are, and all Quartz - perhaps intentionally, but isn't there something to love about an instantly identifiable (maybe because we've all had a travel alarm clock that looks the same) design like these?

I bought that top one back in March on an auction site as NOS. Sent it off to Braun to have a new battery fitted, yes I can change batteries, but not when they go in via the glass at the front.
I have yet to see it back again, never worn it, as it has never actually come back to me.
    This is the issue

However you are correct, very nice designs.

"who've won design awards for their timepieces?"

You could be a winner too if you are willing to write the red dot awards a cheque for about £5000.

The middle one isn’t even a real Braun, it’s just a rebadged Ventura.

There's a nice post HERE looking specifically at some of the 1970s models.

    Article here too

Now they are just licensed designs cheaply made. The original stuff is sought after, inspired the likes of Jobs and Ive at Apple. Look at the similarities in the calculator.

I’m guessing there’s a lot of air in the case of that chrono - and a big space inside the case. The date window is nearly in the middle of the dial!?

My Dad's got the travel clock and the calculator, so I got him the black dialled one for Christmas a couple of years ago. He loves it.

Well on this subject, I got a bit of a result!
Chased Timpsons 10 times to find out about the whereabouts of my watch, complete radio silence.
Emailed Braun to see if they were aware of it, the need a reference number.
Chased timpsons again, they finally got back to me with a quote for £85
She then dropped it to £65 when I explained it was just a battery replacement.
After me explaining they had had the watch since March and it was sat there since April 4th at Braun awaiting further instructions, she came back to me again after a chat with the management team and agreed to replace the battery for FREE as a gesture of goodwill.
The replacement will be done by the manufacturer and the cost will be carried by Timpson.

    Job done!

Good job. Glad you got it sorted... This is definitely the most positive reply on this entire thread!

TZ-UK hates Braun (except some from the 70s plus the shavers).
