Absolutely, they were really good - but batteries empty after 70 minutes.

I didn’t like the way Japan faffed about for the last 20 mins of the prev game. They played well but I’m glad Belgium beat them

Regardless of what happens tomorrow Southgate played a blinder getting us in the bottom half of the draw.

Japan were hardly a walkover, then we'd have met Brazil then Uruguay or France.....

Much easier in the bottom half and if we aren't good enough to beat Colombia then that's all there is to it

Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s extra time and a penalty loss for England as usual.

Maybe we are all getting our hopes up but it’s not really wishful thinking. There’s absolutely no reason that England can’t reach the final this time.

I’m not saying we will but it’s the best chance we’ve had in a long time.

I agree. Winning three or four games in a row is notoriously different, but judging from the potential opponents it's more likely to happen this year than ever before.

Having said that, it might just as well be over tomorrow. Isn't that the fascination of the world cup?

Is an easy draw really a good thing? Iceland wasn’t exactly long ago and we know how that turned out?

The difference now is England have won and broken through against the defensive teams. England of old had no plan to do that.

Agree though that no team can be written off. Look at how well Japan played yesterday.

I think people are starting to get a bit carried away. It is England's best chance of progressing to a final for a long time but that's true of all the teams in our side of the draw.

Tournament football is brutal. There are questions England need to answer tonight. Will we freeze again if we're up against it, will our defence and goalkeeper be exposed by a better attacking force, will we have any chance if we end up in a penalty shootout?

These games are often decided on fine margins and even if we play well we could still end up on the plane home (as happened to Senegal when they played Colombia in the final group game).

Still think ENGLAND are over reliant on set plays - I think they have scored only one goal that wasn’t from a set piece. Good luck tonight though - I predict 2-1 To ENGLAND. I haven’t got a prediction wrong so far !

Let's say (being optimisitic) England have a 60% chance of getting through each game in the next 3 rounds and then meet Brazil or France in the final and have a 30% chance of winning.

That works out as only a 20 % chance of reaching the final and a 6% chance of winning the world cup so we really need to keep our feet on the ground!

Imagine how low the chances would be in the other side of the draw though.

And of course the odds will be zero if the we panic and play like we did against Iceland!

That's why only the top teams (at the time) have won the world cup previously. Normally the less fancied teams have a chance of winning but the odds are very low. This time at least one unfancied team has a chance of winning but England have still got to beat the odds to be the team who takes that chance.

Alli back in which must be good news for us, think it's going to be down to him to come up with some magic
Really hope Sterling bags an early goal, gets far too much undeserved stick

I can’t stand it. My dog’s keener than me - she’s seen nearly every match and she’s ready for the Columbia match now.

Think we're going to struggle against these, 3 tricky players up front and that big lump at the back who's scored a couple from corners/ free kicks. As long as it's a clean game with no drama or dodgy VAR decisions against us I think I'll get over it

I had no intention of posting in this thread but this (and to be fair other England matches that are the only ones I've watched) remind me why I hate football. The players are cheats, the referees are frightened to punish cheating and FIFA do nothing about it and haven't done for years. There's nothing sporting about it. I'm out!

Half time analysis...the Referee is pathetic!

Colombian fans jeering and whistling at every single England ball.

It's supposed to be a sport and entertaining. This is rapidly turning into a drama complete with poor acting.

Hopefully some will have word with the ref at half time. Like they did when England played against Tunisia.

England needs to keep their cool, bang a load of goals in...........

And totally ignore the Colombians at the end.
