Help a young lad battling cancer realise his dream of 1000 youtube subscribers

I know there's a lot of kind and charitable folks on here... and there's been a lot of rallying around to raise money for such things as cancer charities.

Just read this article in my local paper (full article here: https://www.lurganmail.co.uk/news/jo...-dad-1-8535566 )

Join young Finn’s vlog on YouTube, asks Dad

Ten-year-old Finn Clancy, whose dad Oisin is from Portadown, is hoping to get more subscribers to the YouTube channel he set up while going through cancer treatment. Finn, who is battling cancer in his spine and pelvis, has kept a ‘jolly’ temperament despite rigorous chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.

His dad said his son is now in palliative care and hopes to bring him home soon from Great Ormond Street Hospital. Throughout his therapy the youngster has immersed himself in his own YouTube channel updating it with regular podcasts.

And he is getting quite a following, however Oisin is hoping that the public will rally round and subscribe to the boy’s channel to bring his audience up to 1000. Finn’s mum, Lorraine Mitchell from Leigh-on-Sea, found a piece of paper in his school bag a few months back which said: ‘Note to self: Be Jolly!’ and this sums up the lad’s temperament.
The channel subscriber count is at 787 tonight. Can we give him a boost?.. pass on the word.. and give him a lift?

    Here is the channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTA...4KmAA/featured

    Better late than never.

It was hard to watch some of that, and I'm wiping the tears from my eyes as my 11 year old boy comes downstairs for his breakfast and I'm reminded how precious my family is to me.

I shared the link on my FB page.
Don't normally do that kind of thing but i thought...Well, you know what I thought, much the same as many of you I suspect.
Anyway...just thought it might help the wee lad get a few more subs.

Its with great sadness that I have to return to this thread, to share that young Finn passed away last night, aged 10. Although I don't know the family personally, his Dad is from my home town, and with my own son being 12, it struck a chord. What a great wee lad... and great that he got to see those subscribers soar this past week. Thanks to all for boosting that.

No talk of donations - but I'm sure we can all chip in when Mr Curta organises his next one.

Finn touched many hearts in his short life and was thrilled when thousands signed up to his YouTube site ‘Finn the Phoenix’ over recent weeks.

Last night his dad said: “It is with great sadness that we have to tell you that our brave little Finn the Phoenix passed away in the early hours of this morning: 25/06/18.

“He was courageous to the end and his positivity always shone through.

“Finn believed that as the Phoenix rises from the ashes, he would, too.

“We are so incredibly proud of him and heartbroken that we have lost our little ray of sunshine.

“We thank everyone who has supported Finn and our family through this difficult journey and know that you will respect our need for space and privacy at this time.”

Finn, who was battling cancer in his spine and pelvis, kept a ‘jolly’ temperament despite rigorous chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.

Throughout his therapy the youngster has immersed himself in his YouTube channel updating it with regular podcasts.

Just last week, his dad Oisin thanked everyone who had signed up to the channel and currently there are almost 3,000 subscribers.

Metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma affects fewer than 60 children in the UK each year - and Finn’s was stage 4.

For Finn’s dad Oisin, whose late father Brendan was a well known teacher and school principal in Maghery, it has been a heartbreaking time. “Finn had to deal with many difficult challenges such as his phobia of needles and anaesthesia, extreme nausea, loss of weight, constant lethargy, loss of mobility and bodily functions, loss of his hair, in addition to managing extreme pain on a daily basis.

“During all of the time Finn was sick he kept himself positive by starting the YouTube channel called Finn the Phoenix fired up.

“This has been a great medium for him to express himself. I think it is a reflection of his positivity that he has chosen a phoenix as his username and logo.

“He also recently told me that he thinks that life is a dream and when you die, you just wake up... very profound for his age.”

That is absolutely heartbreaking. I’m pleased that he was able to see his dream come true, things like this mean an incredible amount to children like Finn. Nearer the time of the next raffle I’ll try to see if the family have a preferred charity for donations in Finn’s memory. M

This would bring a tear to a stone; having only just read the OP and subsequently through the thread, what a terrible shame. Well done to all those who helped with the channel views.
