@zelig. That’s the one that immediately came to my mind. Wonderful film.

I’ll bend the rules a touch (if I may) and say the first couple of minutes of every episode of Band of Brothers. Those interviews... puts everything else into sharp perspective

I love the In Dreams sequence from Blue Velvet.

Masterly surrealism. You can just see (Dennis Hopper's) Frank's mind squirming.

    Wonderful David Lynch film.

    Cheers,

    Another favourite:

Just perfect. The music by Sir William Walton, the editing, cinematography, etc. Still one of the best dogfights on film, IMO.

Sorry for the repost, but had to add the clips.

The opening from Blade Runner as well as "Tears in the Rain."

The melancholy of the opening with it's music and scene setting, especially the industrial city landscape with power furnaces spewing fire from their vast chimneys, being reflected in the pensive world weary eyes, always gets me.

Same with the emotional speech by Roy.

There are two that stick in my mind.

First is the closing scene of The Long Good Friday where Hoskins is driven away by the IRA and you can see him realise he's over reached!

Second is a scene in a film called Shogun Assassin where a group of female Ninjas chop a bloke to death. Horrible scene, although not as gory as it sounds or inevitably would be today.

The bit in ET where the kids rescue ET and their bmxs rise up into the sky

The bit in babe where babe hits a perfect round and the farmer says 'that'll do pig. That'll do'

Those two bits always make me cry.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Another wonderful scene, this one from il nuovo monstri (‘the new monsters’, ‘viva Italia’)
Alberto Sordi is in charge of the eulogy at a famous comedian’s funeral. To me, it sums up perfectly classic Italian cinema that can bring you to sorrow then laughter in minutes. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the scene in English.

How do you post a YouTube link that has a thumbnail of the clip rather than just the ‘url’ / tag

You just embed it into [ video] [/video ] tags (remove the extra space). Depending on your settings, you can type these manually or use a button in the editor (right next to the button to post pictures.

Unfortunately, the app doesn't have pre-set tags, so you have to type them manually when using the app.

Even if they weren't the most philosophical or artsy films, these three were certainly making a big impact on me as a 17/18/19-year old:

    What has vanished ?

Got to agree with Raffe - some magical moments on that back to the future scene actually the whole film. The score is A1 and really jolts the scenes. Something profound about that film about our connections with our Mums and Dads as Michael j Fox effortlessly displays.

Fun fact about Pulp Fiction & Tarentino. Vincent Vega (Travolta) has the same last name as Mr Blonde (Madsen) in Reservoir Dogs who's name is... Vic Vega. Back then, Tarentino played with the idea to make a Vega Brothers film with Madsen and Travolta.

Tarentino had lived in the Netherlands (Amsterdam) and had worked in a video rental shop. All his early films point to Dutch details: the 'tell me about the hash bars" scene; the music in Reservoir Dogs (Dutch cult artist Gerard Bakker aka George Baker), Travolta rolling and licking a self-made cigarette from a Dutch brand: Zware Van Nelle and finally the name Beatrix (Thurman) in Kill Bill.

I never knew that until now.
