A 6538 “Big Crown,” the model Connery wore in Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball. Highly collectible. Maybe even a gilt dial version.

Addendum: Oh, just read “original bezel, dial, hands.” Very rare indeed AFAIK. Many were replaced during service jobs.

Google is your friend. Read a bit. I’m sure there’ve even been threads here on the forum about it.

Not a lot to explain really.

Auction estimates mean nothing, the value of that Watch has been realised by at least two people fighting over its worth.

It’s got a story to tell and some such nonsense.

It matters not a jot whether we think it is a shrewd investment or a total waste of money. It's worth what a bidder will pay for it.

It appears that some aren't familiar with the concept of collectibility. Just wait until they discover what some old bits of pottery or painted canvas can go for. :P

Since you're worried about ridiculous behaviour in watch collectors, presumably you have no more than three or four watches, just enough to cover all needs?

And they need to be Casios because it is ridiculous to spend more on a watch that has less functions and is less accurate. :)

That's the kind of arguement someone in a queue at Argos would make

Stay of the market for rare pieces - not that I agree or applaud BTW.

What is the buyer of this watch likely to do with it? Gentle and sympathetic clean up keeping original dial and hands but maybe replace the glass?

What about the movement, I assume it will get a service if required. Does replacing various parts of the movement affect future value or is it only really the face of the watch that most folk try to keep as original as possible?

I'd say it won't be getting much more than climate and access control.

Famous brand, simple & elegant design, rarity, a film connection, historic and a section of society with large amounts of disposable income. That's how I'd explain it.

I don’t understand it either........but I understand that I don’t understand it and accept that someone deems it to be worth megabucks. Can’t say I’m drooling over it.

So if Ian Fleming had worn a Seiko instead of a Rolex, would it mean that these https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...-)sanity-check would be worth 30 times more?
