Oops no, that's a Curta.
Since i was thinking of getting a porlex, they seem to have doubled in price!
There are a few cheapie lookilikies on amazon which seem to get good reviews.
Has anyone tried these and are they any good? Any other recommendations?
Like the look of the hario but would prefer steel to glass for durability

You've splashed out on a decent pot...why not do the same for a grinder? Buy once, buy right and it'll last you a long, long time.
I had my say in another thread: link. The Lido 3 is still going strong and is used everyday.
Incidentally, that thread is called 'Coffee grinders... advice please' and I can't think that much has changed in the interim.
I actually read that as you are looking for a Hang Glider.
I need to sort out spectacles. And quickly. :)
The Knock Aergrind (link) may suit your needs...have a search on the net for reviews. Their Feld 2 - Honed is pricier...but gets good reviews, as I recall.
Knock aergrind looks great
It's about three times more than i wanted to spend though
I should have said, this is for travel, so size is an issue.
Thanks Dave

£55 on Amazon. Mine came from Japan a few years ago, price to the door was £99. They only do enough for 1 mug, but interestingly it slips perfectly into an aero press, which keeps things compact when camping.
If it’s for travel then get the aergrind, it’s designed to fit in an aeropress so very compact. It’s much better built than a hario or rhino, if it’s still too pricy go for the rhino.
I had a Porlex Mini that I used for a few years before getting the Aergrind last Xmas. I would say for the price differential now the Aergrind is a better buy particularly for travel. It is better built and gives better results. Just feels quality. It is also easier to change the grind setting when you want to. The price of buying a cheap grinder off Amazon and it then being poor and then binned looks to be the difference between a Porlex and an Aergrind anyway. That is true man maths at its finest...

IMO...yes. I gave up on a Hario (they get decent reviews and have their fans...on Amazon and elsewhere) and splashed out on an OE Lido. What's the difference? Firstly, ease and speed...and that I put down to the size of the burrs:
Porlex 28 mm ceramic burrs Aergrind 38 mm steel burrs Lido 3 48 mm steel burrs
Second is the ease of adjustment. Every time I forgot what size I had set when last using my Hario I had to wind it all the way back in and then out the desired number of turns. Lido and the Knock products have a scale to set the grind size that will help you remember and make an adjustment.
Finally, although I know there are equally as good or better hand grinders on the market, I'm not hankering after something else.
Mmhhmmm... Steel burrs.. Mmhhmmm... *strokes beard *
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Not just steel burrs, but "specially hardened black steel burrs"...link.
This is not the grinder you're looking for.
Depends how flush you are I guess. The Porlex type adjustment is just in effect a butterfly screw that you guesstimate. I did find for the Aeropress it had to be almost full tightness but that was fine for what I needed. It also could be taken apart and washed as long as you were careful handling the ceramic burrs and putting it back together again. The Aergrind has a scale though it is 1-12 around the dial and then further rotations so an Aeropress type grind is around a 2-5 or 29 ie. 2x 12 + 5. You also can't take it apart so I brush it out. I also found in creates more static than the Porlex but a £1 Boots mini travel spray bottle to mist the beans before grinding fixes that. It is also smoother and quicker in use than the Porlex. I have not had the loosen issue that the review mentions nor the lid coming loose. The static issue in the cons I also sorted as I stated earlier.
