    New Citizen BN0118-04E

Finally the Citizen I and probably many others have been waiting for. The new Ray Mears watch that doesn’t have the Royal Marines logo on the dial

    https://www.johnlewis.com/citizen-bn...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

I loved my Royal Marines Citizen but couldn’t live with logo on the dial so flipped it. I know many people feel the same and urged Citizen to do the watch without the logo. And here it is. I’ll add some stock photos when I get on Tapatalk

OK then Tapatalk isn’t playing again for adding photos but the link works and there are some photos of it on WUS if you search BN0118

Nice...if its the same size and build as the Royal Marines version then it'll be a belter...I picked up my Royal Marines for a super silly price in the John Lewis sale and its brilliant as a daily beater..hard as nails, 2.5 mm sapphire and only 60g on one of Eddie's natos...I've tried to kill it but hasn't got a mark, fortunately I never really notice the logo (fading eyesight probably)

I am pleased that Citizen have seen the light to remove that silly emblem ( mud guard ) from the dial, very off putting imo.

The new model will fly out of most,if not all AD's. Well done Citizen.

Only seems to be available at Ernest Jones and John Lewis. 10% off at E Jones if you sign up to the newsletter

edit...Scratch that, looks like it’s available in Beaverbrooks and H Samuels, so all over high street :-)

Do you know if it is the same Duratect finish as the original Promaster Tough version?
One of many watches that I regret flipping over the years!

Yes I agree, Citizen have certainly listened to opinions on this one. Well done indeed

I can’t find full specs on these, not even on the Citizen website. I’d like to know if it’s still 2.5mm sapphire as well

It's strange that there are no specifications available online, it doesn't show up as existing on the Citizen website and some retailers are listing it as stainless steel!
The best I could find was on Very where it looks like it's copied from a Citizen data sheet showing Super Titanium and Sapphire glass (sadly no thickness).
Is it polished, brushed or Matt finish?
You can guess that I'm talking myself into picking one up!

Yeah me too, I even phoned my local Ernest Jones and they had one in and I was all set to go but didn’t. I’m guessing it’s exactly the same spec as the Royal Marines variant, Titanium, 2.5mm sapphire, etc

Looking at the back of the watch on WUS, it seems it's not Duratect or "Super" titanium, just base titanium like the RM one.

  12. #12
I suspect its the same spec as the Royal Marines watch but obviously without the logo..shame its unlikely to be duratec but super titanium is hardy enough...I have a PMD56 with duratec and it shrugs off any knocks...I've worn my super titanium RM as a beater for well over a year and while it doesn't have the lovely lustre and finish of duratec its still very good..no marks as yet

I think Base Titanium is the same as Super Titanium which would make sense. Looking at the original Promaster Tough specification that seems to be the same again!
In the absence of a Citizen specification does anyone know for sure?

Like the look of this, though three hundred quid for an eco drive seems a bit rich. Are these likely to come down in price once the dust settles?

Big wrists and a Big nose, neither proved much use in life thus far.....

Notice the case and strap described as stainless steel in the description, presume this is just a misprint as watch still shows ‘titanium’ above the 300m indication on face?

I have a BM6400 and managed to source an original bracelet from Citizen UK. I tried the BN0118-55E on at my local F.Hinds and found it quite a bit lighter (obviously) than the BM6400 with bracelet. I didn't have a lot of time to check it out properly as the shop was really busy but I'll be popping back early doors next week for a proper look. Pretty certain the case and bracelet are titanium but don't quote me!

If they bring out a GMT version I might just have to buy it. I have an original Ray Mears and a PMD56-2951 so a GMT titanium without logos would fit well in that little group.

So far I've read the case diameter is 40, 41 and 42.5 mm. Now difficult can it be give the right figure?
That said, regardless I'm hovering over a buy it now button as I miss my old.....

It’s an attractive watch that ticks many boxes for me: titanium, field watch style, Japanese brand (I have a burgeoning Japanese watch collection), affordable.

But the numbers on the dial are just too big... they overwhelm the watch. Deal breaker sadly.

I find this also as the specs are great but the numerals a little too legible if that’s possible . Still a great watch though.

Saw it today in a local jewellers, not sure if I’ve been wearing my UX too much, but it looked tiny to me.

Trying to decide if I need one, when the Sinn pretty much covers all the times I’d wear it.

I've been put off Breitling's for some years now for the same reason.

    I think at this price point I'd pay another few quid for the JDM Citizen Promaster Land PMD56-2952;

    Love those...

Just checked it out. Bracelet model has a divers clasp for adjustment. Ernest Jones has the size at 42mm. I had on my BM6400 which I think is 41mm and the watch is smaller than that. I would say its probably a 40mm.

  36. #36
Measuring my arrival with a ruler and I'd say 40mm (45mm with crown, 46mm lug tip to lug tip)

    It seems very nice.

Solid but light, numbers look fine in the flesh.

Blue lume, the second hand isn't perfect all the way round the dial but doesn't bother me too much.

    And with todays other arrival

Does it feel quality like the old promasters or tinny like the other recent cheapie offerings in the same line?
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

  41. #41
Feels quality but obviously missing some heft.

From what I remember of having an original Ray mears and the pmd56 it’s at least as solid as those.

Getting 2 watches in one day is difficult though as I keep swapping between them

Pictures look great. Thanks for posting. I like this watch a lot. I’m tired of Seikos QC problems, their chapter ring issues are driving me nuts, so much so I’ve stopped buying them. This Citizen is a great alternative with great spec. I prefer it on the strap than bracelet which is a scratch magnet. Looks good on the sand nato too. Not got mine yet but maybe soon.

You can fit two on a nato.

    Different lug widths though.

So I'd either have bunching or spring bar showing....

Just ordered one from H.Samuel, the code VCLOUD15 gave 15% off.

It does look like they've taken the Royal Marines special, removed the logo and added the promaster logo to the crown...if so then that's fine as I've been really happy with the solid build and size of my RM..looks great on Eddies grey Nato...as I mentioned earlier its tough as old boots and the 'standard' super titanium has shrugged off lots of knocks...super thick sapphire and excellent lume too...might keep my eyes on the pricing and think about one of the new ones if it comes up in sale but I think its a fair price for what you get..(excuse my smugness but I got my RM for £89 in the John Lewis closeout sale )...don't forget to register online for an extra 1 year warranty

hum... I've got the PVD Royal marines which I picked up for next to nothing - I wonder if I could replace the dial with a service dial for one of these? (although how do they get the glass out given it's a monoblock?)
