Do t have a OLED myself, I’d just get a 4K 43” tv if I was you, don’t think you’d benefit from a OLED by what you describe watching.
As we can get a new 43" TV in a chassis the same size as our existing 37" (which is at the limit for space) we are looking to upgrade. We haven't bought a new TV for many years, so hope to see a significant improvement in picture quality. It seems that for this size LED is perfectly acceptable according to on-line reviews. We only watch Freeview via terrestrial and basic Netflix so I doubt we'd benefit anyway from spending on OLED. Is there anybody in the know who can confirm my suspicions? Thanks.

I don't think they make a 43" OLED, 55" is the smallest I believe
I found these urls useful when choosing TV size.

Mine is 48" but we are 9' away so need to convince the wife to let me buy a 65" or move the couch closer. BTW, 55" is the usual buy in Aus nowadays. No more bulky CRTs sticking out.
Re OLED, don't know. I like to go to the local electronics superstore and admire the quality of the highest priced teles from a foot. Then I back off to about 2-3yds (viewing distance) and check the difference. I then question the difference in picture quality re the difference in price and end up with the house red. But I'm a cheapskate who looks for VFM.
One thing I do recommend is bias lighting. Buy a cheap strip off Ebay and watch tv in the dark. Better for your eyes and going to sleep.
Are all OLED TVs 4K? Obviously 4K refers to the resolution but I thought OLED (or QLED in the Samsung world) just referred to the means by which the pixels (if that’s what they are called) display colour, light and dark.
LG OLED panels (used by LG and other manufacturers including Sony, I think) display black as black not very dark grey. I suspect that is more significant to the overall picture than 4K but, as I said, not sure if you can buy OLED non-4K.
This will explain better:

This is a 43” Samsung :

What’s your budget?

QLED is not the same as OLED. Samsung’s marketing department want you to think otherwise. QLED is a backlit LCD display with an extra layer of quantum dots. The pixels in the display do not emit light Like an OLED display does.
LG make the majority of OLED TV panels. The smallest is 55".

As stated above not sure they make OLED in smaller than 55. Samsung will make you think they are OLED with their QLED technology but it is LCD. That is not to say they are not good. Just different technology the black will not be as good on the QLED.
Both technologies have there a
Advantages and disadvantages.
We found a new model Panasonic HDR 4K 43” for £650 that fits our budget (and limited space) I’d pay more if there was a significant benefit but it looks like, from comments, OLED is not really worth paying for in our situation. Thanks to all contributors

One thing to add is the way the panel type alters the viewing angle. This can be very important depending on how you sit in relation to the screen. If you are straight on then it is all good. However, modern tv panels are either IPS or VA. The former tends to have poorer blacks but a wider viewing angle. The latter the other way around. What this means is the picture can wash out quite significantly if you are not at the prescribed angle. A lot of HDR tvs will now be VA due to needing the black levels. See https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/ips-led-vs-va-lcd OLED does not have this issue and pretty much any angle to the screen is good. But as said the minimum size is 55". I have a 43" Sony 4K HDR tv for gaming and sit just at the edge of the recommended distance and it works really well. Good picture on Freeview too and with built in apps like Netflix/Prime Video.
We've had a Hisense 40" 4K in the kitchen for more than 2 years now and can't fault it. When/if it fails, I'd happily get another but this one also caught my eye. I don't know the brand but it looks interesting.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
TCL are the best selling TVs on Amazon US. The latest 6-series models are getting very good reviews.

No.
I enjoyed films as much on my 14" black and white portable as I do on my 4k 50" screen :-(
Hisense and TCL are well known in Aus.
