    Oyster or Jubilee bracelet.

It’s seems that with the new GMT the jubilee is back in fashion. I do like a jubilee, for me though a good old oyster is preferable if you had the choice. I vaguely remember gmt’s with jubilee bracelets were valued slightly lower than its oyster fitted counterpart.

Given the choice would you pick a jubilee over an oyster?

I’ve always preferred the look of the oyster and its great on my sub.

However, I like the jubilee on the gmt, and adding a gmt alongside the sub, for me, the jubilee adds a worthwhile differential, along with the more colourful bezel and gmt complication.

I have liked the blnr as a watch, but I’ve always thought it looks too much like my sub to warrant owning one as well as the sub.

I am however patiently on the waiting list for a Pepsi gmt!

So for me, if only one Rolex, oyster, but jubilee adds a nice bit of variety as an addition.

Oyster every time, bought my son a SKX007 for his 18th on the jubilee but just put a strap-code oyster on it and its transformed the watch, it feels so much better

Always liked the look of the Jubilee on a GMT and the Oyster always seemed a bit "second best" at the time I was looking for mine (32 years ago), though I don't think that now. The Oyster bracelet is an important part of the trademark Rolex aesthetic for me, along with the cyclops (though some can do without either, I know).

I especially like the look of an Oyster band on a dressier watch like a Datejust - something about the juxtaposition of elegance and toolishness really appeals.

    Oyster every time for me.
Jubilee is a bit too fussy IMO but will admit looks good on the new Pepsi(Oyster would make it better though)

I much prefer the Oyster but in the new GMT, the Jubilee gives a bit of variety and, as has been said (I think) a bit of a vintage vibe. I'd be interested to see one in the flesh.

The only reason to like Jubilee on the new GMT; because you have no choice! I would hazard a guess that most people on and off the forum would rather it was on Oyster...

Oyster. The jubilee just seems at odds with the watch for me.

Personally am not a fan of jubilee bracelets on sports watches, think oysters look much better if a steel bracelet is what you want it ok.

  13. #13
Oyster for me , think jubilee looks too busy. However looks good on the day date .

Oyster, I think it's the best looking bracelet out there, fully brushed of course.

Oyster every day of the week.

I always thought the jubilee was a bit, well, Frank Butcher-ish.

Oyster on steel sports models, jubilee on Datejusts.

(I would say excluding the new GMT but I'll probably never be able to get one!)

    Oyster or Jubilee bracelet.

    Both!

    And occasionally rubber too.

Maybe putting a Strapcode Jubilee on it would also have made it feel better?

Anyway, at the end of the day it's all completely subjective, like most things to do with watches. Personally I like Jubilees, even though I can fully see how they can be seen as not best suited to sports watches.

I owned a 16750 a few years ago and had a new jubilee installed at RSC when it was serviced (I had put the oyster on my Tudor sub). It made the watch way too shiny and blingy for me to wear comfortably, so much that I rarely wore it and eventually I sold it.

I like both to be honest but if pushed would have to go with the oyster bracelet.

Oyster for me. The only reason Rolex didn’t put it on the new GMT was to make it look different form the white gold Pepsi model.

I like both. Depends entirely on the watch in question. One is dressier while the other is more toolish/sportier. Nothing like a jubilee for comfort.

I also have a jubilee which I like to switch onto my Pepsi from time to time. Always come back to the oyster though, as it just feels more appropriate, and definitely more robust.

I agree; it’s nice to be able to switch it about from time to time though.

I recently put a jubilee on the BLNR...it was a very exciting change, but I'm back on the oyster now - the jubilee from the DJ36 just didn't quite fit the BLNR perfectly. I have a recent thread with me comments/photos, but here's a teaser:

Jubilee on 16700 Pepsi and Oyster on 16710 Coke....

  31. #31
I enjoy having the option of swapping from Oyster to Jubilee on my GMTs, but for me it's going be the Oyster without hesitation if the choice is limited to one — and that applies to every model Rolex makes.

With so many preferring the oyster bracelet, lots of murmurings about the washed out odd colours on the bezel etc will this potentially go down as a bit of a flop in Rolex terms. I personally much prefer the blnr.

Don't confuse what people on forums prefer with what most Rolex customers prefer. They may be quite different. Every person on the forum might dislike a particular model without it making any real difference to overall sales.
The market isn't made up of hobbyists, fortunately for the manufacturers.

Oyster for sure. Something about jubilee bracelets is oh-so-wifeswappy or used car salesman.

    Seems a bit harsh.

I prefer the Oyster overall, but the Jubilee is not without its charms:

I enjoy wearing both, and it’s nice to be able to mix it up a bit; more options are good, right?

I think the jubilee works really well with the DJ but for everything else I prefer oyster. My rule is with a simple dial a complicated bracelet will work, other way round and you need something simple, if that makes sense?

I always loved GMT on jubilee way more than on Oyster, obviously DJ belongs on jubilee too and Sub on oyster.

I think it's an era thing. If the watch looks like it is from before 1982 then a jubilee is the obvious choice, more modern, it doesn't suit.
