How Many Watches Do You Own?

I’ve read a few posts lately of members stating how many watches they have in their collection and I’ve been quite shocked [and impressed] by the high numbers some seem to own.

Personally I only own 4 currently but then I’m always selling the ones I own to acquire others.

    Just genuinely interested and intrigued...

    Thanks,
    Tony

Subsidiary question: what is the ratio between your first answer and the real answer?

Once incomings arrive I will be at 24. No coincidence that my watchbox holds 24. Guess line had to be drawn somewhere

I've been stuck on 16 for a while now. To make matters worse every time I move one on (a less-loved one, to bring the numbers down) I seem to buy another that'll be much, much harder to let go. I therefore don't see the number coming down any time soon

Or at least one more watch; there’s always room for one in your wrist as well!

Simultaneously not enough (want more) and too many (can't find a regular situation to wear all 18 or so).
    Ever the problem.......

12, but want to reduce the count. However, every time I move one on (not often) I find another to replace it. Must be some kind of disease; or a roller coaster you just can’t get off!

What we should be asking ourselves is, how many watches do you own that you will not wear?

That’s the problem, other than sentimental value why do we keep things that we don’t use especially when we could use the funds to purchase something we do want, I’m a fine one to talk and I’m trying to change my mental state to be less attached to less face it first world belongings..

At the last count it was 66 or 67, I can't remember now. Memo to self - must update my spreadsheet!

Not all of them are workers mind, some are not worth fixing and I keep them for nostalgic reasons, some are worth fixing. Memo 2 to self - must get a couple of the non workers fixed!

Around 55-60 at present. But I'm almost 50% through the year and had promised myself to get below 20 and stay there
It's just a matter of time...

I’ve tried to be a wearer and not a collector so I’ve been maxed out at eight, a number I’ve maintained for the last few years. Any number above that involves watches sitting unworn in the watch box and then there’s also the associated service costs with having a lot of watches. It’s what works for me.

My total has crept up to 13, 11 of which are worn but some more regularly than others. I don't think I could go below 5. It takes time to experience different watches and discover what you like and might be keepers long term, but there is an element of guilt if a watch gets less wrist time.

    Somewhere between 35-40?

Made up of a mini mil-collection, a seiko collection, some cheapies and some more expensive ones. I’d probably class about 10 of them as keepers

Started 14 years ago with 1, topped out at 27, currently on 12 with one up for sale, one new one waiting for me at the Post Office and another one on order.

So when the dust settles I’ll have 13.

I have around 25 working and another 5 or so not , I have 13 in circulation so trying to reduce it to 13 in total , I have a handful of nice pieces but most are rubbish really

  34. #34
I had 20 six weeks ago am now down to 16 with 2 of these currently for sale. Have actually sold 6 in this time but also bought 2.

2 of the 16 arent working, think one is beyond hope a quartz which had a leaky battery the other probably salvable a Seiko kinetic.

Possibly 2/3 more will go once the current ones sold but they may be replaced by 1 new one - Ideas is to get down about 12 excluding the non working ones.

Oh no, I stopped counting over a year ago. Without updating my spreadsheet that lovely Luch must be around number 69 or 70

And yes, I've got it bad Simon, very bad! Still well short of one for every day of the year though

Currently at 22. Did bring it down to 18 earlier this year.

Am thinking about flipping some of the SS pieces and consolidating them into 2 or 3 watches.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOps! I've just updated my spreadsheet Simon, the Luch is number 83!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel feint, seriously didn't think it was that many Then there's all the fishing rods and reels and lures, (I've got way more lures than watches - by a long way!). Oh, and the cameras, and the lenses, and the golf clubs, and the CD's, and the vinyl LP's and singles, (and I haven't even got a turntable!); there's even a microscope I haven't used in years. Too many hobbies, where did it all go wrong?

Memo 3 to self - must sell something before Lynn realises.
    Best Regards - Peter

5 ‘good’ watches and a couple of cheapos.

    Black Daytona C
    White Explorer II 16570
    GMT BLNR
Blue dial 116200 Datejust on jubilee
    16600 Seadweller

Apart from being all Rolex, I think it covers all my needs.

5...but I’m moving into accumulation mode, as I buy watches to keep, not to flip. In order of most recent:

    Grand Seiko SBGJ227 (peacock dial)
    Bremont Alt1-C (Anthracite dial)
    Montblanc Star Chronograph 4810
    Rado Centrix Automatic R30939163
    Raymond Weil Tango

Everything but the Raymond Weil get worn, the Grand Seiko is a stunning piece. Tend to splash out once a year, hoping the next purchase will be a Patek Phillipe Aquanaut 5167...I will tell the missus after I have done that ;)

    9, 11 if you count the 2 g shocks.
12 if you count the broken Sector languishing in a drawer somewhere, which I’m keeping for sentimental value and the off chance I come round to fixing it one day.

11 when I joined this forum, half reasonable and half very old stuff kept for sentimental reasons. Now up to 20, but one leaving next week. Need to get some sort of a grip on the situation.

Ermmm... not exactly sure. At least 150 I'd guess. Maybe 200. Just waiting for Richemont to buy me out.
