    Or:-
"Last man wearing a Speedmaster to walk on the moon has died"

    Both statements can be misinterpreted-
The moon has never worn a Speedmaster, & my quote could imply that others had walked on the moon after Cernan, but were not wearing a Speedmaster when doing so.

Complicated this English Grammar, ain't it ?
    Just sayin.....

Only if you want to be an over-the-top pedantic prig about it. Was that really necessary? Will that post ingratiate you with the big boys?

Now that very distant memory from childhood makes sense. I was sure I'd been put in front of a telly to watch a space mission when very young. Sad that we are losing the men of the right stuff.

    Bah Humbug

These were the people that made America great. Whilst I'm of the Shuttle, Hubble and now SpaceX era, I'm still fascinated by the audacity and brilliance that took early pioneers into space. The right stuff indeed.

Of the dozen who walked on the moon, only half are still walking the earth.

An idea explored by Andrew Smith in his very readable book Moondust - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Moondust-Se...dp/1408802384/

Anyway, top man was Gene, I'll forever remember his quote that if he could show the population of Earth the view of their home planet from the Moon as he saw it, the world would be a somewhat more peaceful place.

    Rest in peace Eugene.

    Speed master reference unnecessary (IMO).

    Anyway, RIP Sir.

Yes, you're probably right. Was a late night, bleary eyed thread. Should have gone in G & D probably but of course I made the watch connection and remember last seeing press shots of Gene doing Omega promo stuff.

A lovely bloke by all accounts. He spoke beautifully about the spirituality of the whole experience in the excellent documentary, 'In The Shadow of The Moon'. A brilliant watch and highly recommended.

RIP Gene Cernan. What a legacy, and I always thought he was one of the best communicators about Apollo and came across as a thoroughly decent human being.

I thought it quite amusing :0)

Actually, on reading the headline I thought he was last survivor of All those that walked on the moon...confusing...

Saw this on BBC4 last night. It wasn’t until the credits rolled by that I saw it was an epitaph. Bought a tear to my eye. He seemed such a gentle hero (in the best possible sense).

Remember watch the moon landings as a young boy, awe inspiring indeed.
Considering that there is a lot of talk of mining space, and the improvements in technology, why isnt another moon landing program started.

I'm not sure how true it is, but I can recall reading an article some time ago which suggested that at its peak the US space program accounted for 10% of their GDP.
