    Try to ignore this ...

I took the opportunity of the new forum format to try out the "friend and foe" function in the User Control Panel, and have defined a "foe" for tests.

The problem is well-known: on every board there are invariably members whose contributions you automatically read, just to find that you get angry with yourself for wasting your precious time with the very predictabel drivel of member x-ray yankee zulu (I am not naming names here, and presumably the irksome names will be different for each member).

It is simply impractical to look at the username and then decide not to read the post ... so that is where the ignore function comes in: Instead of the post you see a single line that this post was made by member xyz, that he is on your ignore list, and by clicking you can have the post shown.

So far (on other fora), I had never been able to make that function work. It works like a treat here.

My expectation is that as time progresses and I add a few more names to the list, I will be much better to focus my time on TZ-UK on sensible contributions, and ignore the drivel, jingoism, superficialities etc. :D

(I am still dabbling with the corresponding "freinds" function, by the way, but cannot see what difference it does make at this point.)
    Cheers,

    Martin ("Crusader")

    That can be useful.

It would also be fun if we could hide our posts from particular people. Even more fun, if one wants to see some sparks fly, would be if we could see who was ignoring us.

Get the right combination of features of friend and foes, and we could have four or five virtual boards going on in the same place at the same time with multiple, unrelated conversations in one thread.

    Best wishes,
    Bob

    Thanks, Crusader.

Seriously, though, I think that is a great function Martin. I will have to dabble with it. I certainly hope this post won't earn me a spot on the foe list...

I don't think it will get really extensive use (2 ignorées on the list, so far), but it does give one the feeling that when the drivel should become unbearable, at least one does have a shield to protect oneself against same! :D

I have found a use for this, and have added someone to my ignore list. Not because of the objectionable content of this person's posts, but because of the objectionable font used. Form, as well as content, does matter. :)

    Best wishes,
    Bob

The problem with ignore lists is evident in JimmerJammer's Post. You may ignore somebody but the chances are that the person you have on ignore will be fully quoted in the next post thereby rendering your ignore useless. I suppose the software here could block quotes from your "foes" posts also but I've never seen that.

It is not as bad ... after about a week, I am not disturbed by foes' quotes ... occasionally I even have their original posts displayed. But the forum has become much cleaner for me.
