Now this has hardly been a divisive issue, but I'm definitely in the 'Wow!' camp. The sapphire crystal is wonderful, solid and crystal-clear, and the spring bars the reason I moved along my original PRS-29a. The new numbering is just fantastic; the dial a deeper black, and a bit finer in finish than the last version. Lume is great, and the whole package just superb.

Downsides? A bit sharp on the edges underneath--but they don't make contact with the wrist. The etching on the caseback isn't as deep as the last version. And the finish of the hands--the edges--is a bit rough under a loupe.

Then again, I didn't pay 2K for this. It looks and feels just terrific, and isn't leaving my wrist anytime soon.

By the way, the NATO is great(colour, fabric and hardware). Pity I just don't get along with them. It'll sit in the nice customised Timefactors 2-watch travel case.
Sharp??? And what magnification we talking on your loupe. My eye sight is shocking so I doubt I would notice!

It's looking increasingly unlikely that I'll open again on Tuesday. I've been packing for 5 days now and the pile of order seems just as high as it was 5 days ago.

I was probably the last person to leave the shop on Tuesday, so I'm going to have to be patient.

    Very excited though!

Came to a pretty surprising conclusion.

I have come to the conclusion that I will not be attempting to acquire the "Air Ministry" timepiece. I have been here before with other timepieces or I should really say it is because of the size of the strap. I just cannot do it. To me the strap size speaks to me, if I will be comfortable with the timepiece and 18 mm just does not do it. I think that the watch is just perfect but this issue I have with the strap size is a deal breaker for me. The smallest I will go is a 20 mm strap. Again I would like to commend Eddie on a fine job that he did on the AM and will be eyeing the secondary market for a 29b when the time is right. Also I want to thank all of those who helped me get somewhat used to this forum and kind of how things operate around here, wait a minute, I'm not going anywhere so let me keep it short and just say another day another watch.

Mine arrived yesterday and I love it, really classy and so readable. The proportions of the case are just right and I think 20mm lugs would have looked odd.

    Why?
that doesn’t make sense that’s like saying I will only buy wheels of a certain size even if the car then looks unbalanced.
18mm is perfect on this watch.

    ...
Well, we all have our little, or not so little, dealbreakers. Short hands is mine. However, I think I'm right in saying that the AM is based on the MOD 6B/159 which was 33mm with 17mm lugs, so lugs are roughly half the case width. To me, this is the perfect proportion. Thankfully, the new AM also sticks to this 'rule' with 36/18. Anything else would not have been in keeping with the original which for many (most?) of us would also have been a dealbreaker. And the quartermaster wouldn't have been so inundated with orders...

I was concerned by references to a possible 20mm lug width. Having owned previous incarnations of the 29a I regard 18mm as just right. 20mm would have not been a deal breaker for me but I would probaby always have felt as though the design had been compromised.

Or you could have bought this for CHF2000. I think the Smiths hands are better.

I'm really looking forward to seeing these blue hands in person. I ordered the Air Ministry late on Tuesday so not expecting it for a while yet, but enjoyed the photos so far. I've been wearing my 29A in readiness. They seem like the perfect pair.

I'm not sucking up to the boss but the Smith's knocks the Longines for six. Better case, better dial with no faux patina, better hands, better lugs and a more attractive logo. Are the Longines hands heat blued?

    Eddie,
Love the AM. My first Smiths, but definitely not the last. BTW what does the "PRS" stand for?
Also, whats the best way to embed the photo?

Cheers Eddie, 007 has arrived and I’m loving it.

Im not usually a black NATO wearer but this one is better quality than most and a good length.

    Quick and dirty phone snap.

I've been working through the weekend and 21 internationals went to UPS today and I'm just taking 16 to the post office. Still got 14 to ship from last Tuesday though :-(

Did I mention that the Everest is due this week?

Received my shipping e-mail today. It's just a shame that I'm not in the country to take delivery.

I hope it's kept safe at the depot until I can go and pick it up next week.

Having worn them non-stop since Friday (I don't take watches off for bed and have a very active job) the time keeping is about +20s for one and - 20s for the other. Anything but impressive, but given how they look, I'll survive.

Plus 20 seconds a day for the black one, minus 20 seconds a day for the white.

It was hard enough choosing which to buy :D I loved the stock photos but didn't know if I'd get on with the black one of it was really just a black dial, but in certain lights a lovely blue tint does come through. First TF watches and I'm very impressed. Think I'll have to have a look at the divers.

Hello my names rich and ive just bought a prs-29AM.
Been following the thread for a while, pulled the trigger this morning. So thats christmas sorted then.
Ill be fitting mine with a Bonklip because leather and nylon both tend to cause my skin allergies to flare up. Otherwise some kind of pigskin air ministry type band will need to be found, for when its sitting in the watch box rather than on my wrist.
Ive got 2 original W10s so the white dial AM seemed an obvious choice of the two options. Very very much looking forward to this one!
Ill post a pic when it arrives.
    Cheers!
    Richard.

Ps ill do a proper “hello and heres my collection of precistas” introduction in a bit, once ive taken some pics. A ‘Southerns’ Precista was my 18th birthday present from my folks, still got it. Also a 18Q, a PRS-5, some stopwatches, a ‘Southerns’ pocket watch, a beautiful 1960s stainless steel Precista branded Gallet multichron 45 with a tachy/tele dial and lumed/blued hands and finally a Speedbird III which is an incredible watch, one of my favourites. I also collect Smiths and CWCs. Thanks for bringing Smiths and Precista back, Eddie! Much appreciated! ;c)

Mine arrived this morning and I’m really pleased with it. Looking forward to trying it on some leather straps but in the mean time here’s a quick pic of it on the NATO plus a couple taken with a cheapie iPhone macro lens.
