I was just wondering if the shop opened today Eddie and people managed to get a few orders through ?
(Last I checked I thought you said it wouldn’t open today with the backlog )
If so did all 38 air ministry watches go ?

Hello From Paris suburbia
SMITHS Military 36mm PRS29-AM (Air Ministry) N° 022/18
just got this beautiful one
The dial change from beige / Crème to plain white depending on the light
Hi All,
My name, too, is Rich and, also, making my first post.
Finally pulled the trigger on the Military (black) version this morning. Thank God I managed to wake up early enough after getting in from work past 2 this morning!
Have bought a few nato straps from Eddie already, in the past, and been umming and erring over which watch to buy (do I get the PRS29 or the PRS18???). Anyway, this will be the first watch from the Timefactors stable (I’m sure I will get the the PRS18 once the funds are replenished and it’s, hopefully, still available!) and I’m really looking forward to it. Not owned a hand wound watch since I was a kid, many, many years ago, and I love the field watch/military look and practicality. Looking forward to getting back to basics!
Loving all the wrist shots and other shots that are being posted!
The finishing on the hands is as good as any I've seen, even on watches costing 5 times as much and possibly more. The dial printing is crisp and to my eye, suits the watch perfectly.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
When my 29AM first arrived it went on to one of the cotton canvas straps Eddie used to sell:
But I ordered an RAF (ish) blue Perlon for it:
As long as your quick on the draw that looks like a good plan.
I had only intended to buy one but reckoned that if I had both then I could take my time deciding which one I liked best and the other one would be easy enough to move on. This may well be the case with others that have bought the pair.
On the other hand there is a slim possibility that I will keep both. I am a serial flipper though - which is half the fun to me.
The white one interests me, but 36mm seems mighty small, currently my smallest is a 38mm Seagull 1963.

Yes I'm intrigued by the size, all the photos I've seen in this thread make it appear larger, of course that could easily be the distance the shots were taken from, it's the size that stopped me ordering direct from Eddie, and with that in mind perhaps hoovering one up on the off chance someone becomes disenchanted.

Just one question about the straps interchangeability on these new PRS-29 watches: where to buy additional 18mm stainless steel shoulderless spring bars ?
EddieDear Mr Platts,
Just a short and quick email to let you know that both watch, 0037/18 Smiths Air Ministry and the braided NATO strap arrived safely and on time with me this morning (Tues). The Smiths AM watch beautifully exceeds expectations and both NATO straps are of the highest quality. The fine quality Timefactors watch travel case was a welcome bonus reinforced by your 'bomb proof' shipping packaging. Many Thanks Eddie for having the imagination and the energy to recreate at an affordable price what most could ever only dream of owning.

If I was you, I'd be waiting patiently outside from 7am in case Eddie opens early. A few people seemed to get their orders in before 7.30am on release day. I was on the verge of ordering from 7.30am, before finally succumbing after 2 in the afternoon.

My word what a pretty little thing!
Perfectly sized, nice solid feel, lovely winding and setting action. It has lots of what i like to call “Pebble”.. a pleasing, tactile roundness, not too slimline but not lumpy. As personified by all of the 50s/60s GS/navigator watches, but missing from the 1970s tonneau cases. VERY PLEASING.
Straight onto a Bonklip:
And with some other Air Ministry/Smiths/Raf friends
And a comparison with some other mostly 36mm cased friends
Cheers!
Rich

Also;
The hands. Wow. I had decided not to buy this when it was announced initially as having chemically blued hands. And then changed my mind back again when it emerged that they are properly heat blued. They are all exactly the same shade, and the lateral arching of the hands gives a fantastic reflective interplay with any light.
Excellent. Top notch. Every bit as good as anything ive seen from ‘days of yore’.
My only reservation? I always prefer acrylic to sapphire, but the box sapphire fitted is a very good one, with a lovely shape and the light coloured dial minimises annoying reflections. I can happily live with this one. :c)
Im going to take it off now and pack it away till Christmas. I must be mad.
Cheers Eddie!

I've just had a very pleasant autumnal stroll by the river to the sorting office, and have collected 069/18. She's now in residence at Cornholio Towers and my, she's a beauty.
The only thing I had been unsure about was the domed crystal, as I'm not always too keen. Nothing to worry about there though, it's super.
Wow, very many thanks to our esteemed host for such a marvellous and well priced timepiece. Such a good service too, with the hand written guarantee, zippered two watch case and excellent packaging. Splendid!

Another satisfied customer here. Picked up no. 57 from the sorting office this morning. The blue hands are special. They really come to life in natural light.

@Cornholio- nice serial number! ;c)
Mines number 72 btw.
One last strap test before i put it away til December; an old pigskin from the sixties. Smashing.
Im missing it already...
Heheh! Excellent.
I really like em. Even the cheap 10 quid ones from ebay. Before you put it on you think, “eurghh! Rattles like its made of beercan ring pulls!” But then once its on its a lovely, light, snug, not arm hair pulling thing at all.
Im going to modify an 18mm one for this before i fit it to mine though- use a dremel to dress away the sharp square edge right next to the lugs on the first link, in order to minimise Bonklip Rash on the lugs. They can be quite scratchy. Traditionally on an 18mm or 20mm lug watch youd have a 12.5 or 16mm band with 18/20 mmends.
A good trick is to slightly undersize the ends, and then cut some really thin washers from a ballpoint pen ink tube (teflon? Nylon?) and slip them either side of the clip onto the springbars. This removes any possibilities of scratching the lugs.
A picture paints a thousand words. Heres an 18mm bonklip on my 20mm Speedbird. This pic was previously posted on mwr which is why its been slightly set dressed... ;c)
Cheers!
Rich
Please ignore.someone gave answer to Bonklip already.
