A new aririval - one I have been after for a long time

Well after years of searching I have finally tracked down a Rhodesian Army issued Roamer.

It needs a service and new stem but with luck one of the resident watch makers here can work their magic on it (stand by for an email WatchBloke).

Last picture with a CWC W10 of a similar vintage
Apologies for the post lunch crumbs! :)

Welcome to the club. Have you got a source for the SFA199 inscription - mine is marked with an RA number. Obviously yours was SADF-issued before it went north of the border but I don't think I've seen one marked like yours before (this is intended more as a comment on the extent of my knowledge rather than cast any aspersions on your watch).

There was a list of them on MWR.
SA numbers were nearly equal to RA numbers in terms of those noted there. I looked it up as there was one listed on Chrono24 for very little a while back and i was curious

The info out there is very sparse, most information is found in a couple of posts on MWR, WUS and one in the archives here but I think the SFA number is a unit number(I.e stamped at unit level) for the security force auxiliaries. This was a unit manned by black troops to support the white government.

    This post is quite informative.

It gives an idea on numbers out there (not many). Half of the fun is researching the subject, I hope to add to the knowledge base in time as I look more in to it. Unfortunately the two RLI chaps I know were not issued a watch during the bush war so they can't help in anyway.

This blog shows the next watch in sequence to mine (looks like mine has had a change of hands at some point).
