Super, some pics would be great.
In the past I had a 1989 2.7 Lux and an early car, a 1984 2.5.
Also had a 924 turbo.
Picked up one of these a couple of weeks ago as a bit of weekend fun...what an awesome bit of kit and looks lovely in grey.
A real mechanical / engaging drive and it feels a lot more powerful than the 208bhp it out in 1990. Other half can’t believe how fast it is (feels).
Luckily for me I have two 944 specialists within a 20 minute drive and PorscheShop is on the same trading estate as my office. One of the specialists gave it the once-over last week and has given me a project plan of DIY / Specialist jobs along with their priority. The plan is to replace all the tired and worn parts, upgrade the 28yo suspension and add some minor modifications (Prototipo steering wheel, Fuchs and decat).
I remember when these things were under £2,500 five years ago, the price seems to have rocketed recently and low mileage examples are pushing £10k, the turbos are over £17k!
I’m desperate for an Impact Bumper 911 but this will scratch an itch for now. Worryingly I’m starting to prefer it to my 981 !!!
Anyone else have one on the forums?

Will post some picks when it stops raining !
Nice transaxle history you’ve got there, I’ve not seen a 924 on the road for an age now. Let alone a Turbo!
I said to a friend at work years ago that a 944 S2 or Turbo would be a great investment if you could afford to buy one and stick it in a garage.
At the time 911's had started going crazy, things like the old 911 SC which no one wanted were going to shocking levels of value.
Agreed, the Carrera and SC were under £20k three years ago, you won’t find one for under £40k now. The same with the 996 Turbo, they were under £17k and are now north of £40k !!!
What I thinks happened is people bought the cheaper, lesser 924/944/928/968 models back in the day, modded them to death and / or wrote them off so there’s now subsequently less on the roads. Combine that with the garage-queens and there’s very few left which means rare. And of course rare=expensive.
I’ve just done a check on the S2 and there are only 517 in the UK left which is less that 10% of what was produced (7409). Still, not too bad for a car almost 30yo.
I’m desperate for an impact bumper 911 but fear they will unaffordable when I come to buy one in three years time. If they hit £60 / £70k gawd knows what the 911E and 911T will be costing then !!!
I blame Magnus!!! - I don’t really, I’ve met him and he’s a really nice guy.
Very nice, we need pic's.
Funnily enough I was reading Modern Classic's in bet last night and they were tipping 80's cars as investment pieces and this was one of their favourites, again they said the Turbo model has risen massively and this tends to then bring other models up with it, just like the 911 effect a good few years back.
Sounds like a keeper in every respect.
I've driven most of the 944 variants - my family had many of them back in the day.
I think the S2 was the best sorted overall, and the 3.0 four pot was a great engine. I saw a lovely one just the other day in the local Waitrose car park, and spent a good few minutes admiring it. They still look great today, but I was struck by how small they seem in comparison to most modern cars.
So clever my foot fell off.
A few years ago I was in the Porsche garage in Guildford and saw two immaculate 924Ss on ramps being serviced. I asked about them and was told there were still a good number of people who'd bought them new and still used them 30 years later. Lovely cars, very capable and kept pulling from about 70 to 140mph (yup, done that although obviously not on the public road in the UK...). A neighbour's just bought a mint red 1985 924S to go with his 997, he loves it, even built a new garage for it while he was looking.
I had three 924Ss, one was in lovely condition and really well looked after, one was a complete pig and the other was a fantastic track car with uprated dampers and brakes. It was faster round track than everything up to the badly driven 911s. I bought it like that and stripped out the interior, no power mods or lightened bits, just a bit of a diet and better handling and better brake pads.
"A man of little significance"
My 968 is parked up at the moment whilst I rebuild the engine. That’s been somewhat delayed by moving house, but there is a thread somewhere hereabouts about it

As a 993 owner I’m still tempted by a transaxle model. Plenty of references suggesting they’re much better handling cars than the equivalent era 911.
There's a lovely dark grey 968 appeared recently on my walk from work to the post office. It looks almost new. I'll take a photo next week if it's still there.
I always preferred the look of the 944 over the 911 when I was growing up, but then the 1980s wasn't the 911's finest era aesthetically - all whale tails and flared arches. Yuk! And you can't beat pop up headlights
I tracked a 944STurbo back when I lived in the US. Ran it in Porsche Car Club NA Club Racing Standard spec and sometimes drove it to work. Full cage, kill switch, custom aluminium seats, free flow exhaust (the weird one which you could adjust by adding/removing baffles), etc. Once going, it handled utterly brilliantly and certainly kept pace with most of the other cars on track. Seem to remember wheel/hub bearings being a perennial issue for these cars but easy to sort. Will see if I can find a photo.
My first outing - Mid Ohio - around 1998, I think.
