I think that looks fantastic but I am a sucker for two sub-dial symmetry. My only concern is that at 42mm it may be too big for me. Apologies if it's there and I've missed it but can you tell me the lug-to-lug distance, please.

PS Ignore me, it's 50mm. Borderline for me but I might have to make it work!

Lovely, just lovely. I'd prefer a date and a 12-hour totaliser, but for what it is, it's beautiful.

    That's really smart.
I would love to see a lumed sapphire bezel over ceramic. Mechaquartz is an intresting choice. Much more reliable that a clone handwound I guess.

You have to work with what the movement will do.

    Lovely.
Sapphire bezel insert please. I don't think ceramic would suit the style.

  10. #10
I like this because it does not obviously look like an homage to something else (unless it does of course!) and the overall design has a pleasing coherence to it. But at 42mm, for me, simply too large. And I worry about the aged lume. Is there any prospect of a reduction in size to 40mm and maybe offer un-faux-aged-lume?

I like that a lot, especially with the brown/tan strap.

42mm is fine for me. I am wary of vintage lume because I fear it is 'of the moment' but I believe an all white lume on this may make it feel too busy and fussy (like a Navitimer)

I'm still holding our hope for the Smiths vintage 60s chrono too.

Love it by time we had another chronograph.
Just kidding but it looks brilliant.

Another vote for a sapphire bezel instead of ceramic, the latter wouldn't look right with the boxed sapphire crystal and general vintage look of the watch. In fact, I'd be quite happy with an aluminium insert.

Nice, but would’ve been nicer if it was 40mm and a couple of mm shorter lug to lug. Too big for anyone with slim wrists despite current fashion trends.

Unless the decision’s already been made I would drop the brown lume and go with a subtle shade of green. A new watch should look like a new watch and brown faux- aged lume spoils that look for me. Same applies to the strap, brown straps in this style just don’t work with a black dial, doesn’t matter how many times I see it done, it’ll always look wrong to my eyes.

Choice of movement makes sense, I like the 2 sub- dial symmetry.

I’m assuming the crown isn’t a screw-down; unless a watch is a serious diver I think screwed crowns are best avoided. Sooner or later in the life of the watch they will give trouble and sometimes they’re not easy to fix. A standard crown with a simple O ring seal is a better proposition, in most cases the O ring can be replaced easily and that’s a big plus in several years time if the watch has had a busy life.

Looks great. Great choice of movement, I've got one with a VK61 movement inside and think it's brilliant.

I'd prefer white lume rather than the vintage stuff, or maybe a slightly off-white.

Sapphire definitely the way to go over ceramic.

Love it; for me 42mm is spot on and I think the lume is in keeping with the style. Time to start saving the pennies methinks.

Looks fantastic, a 12 hour bezel for duel time zones would make it perfect for me.

I agree, I'm not keen on the aged lume. I'd prefer white or subtle green.

Had it been called "light brown lume" I'd probably have been fine with it. "Aged lume" is faux-patina, which I'm not a fan of.

That looks great! As a speedy owner, I am drawn to sub dials that are a different colour. I do like a date (more than I originally appreciated on my horological
journey) but totally accept that depends on the movement. I really like the simpler chronograph presentation

I asked for another render using the VK63 movement because it has running seconds, a 60 minute totaliser and a 24 hour totaliser. I also added a date and a grains of rice bracelet.

I prefer the first option with no date and the arabic 6. The symmetry here is strong and very appealing.

I like the second one too but just not as much.

I really like the beads of rice on it.

  31. #31
Both look nice. I'd lose the tachymeter on the three dial version as there looks to be a lot going on there.

My running preference based on above...

    Original (bi-compax) dial
    Creamy, rather than brown lume
    12 hour bezel
    No date
Sapphire bezel insert (aluminium would be preferable to ceramic)
    BOR bracelet yes please

Love it. But as I rarely go 1000 mph and need to time it even less I'd ditch the tachy in favour of a pulse meter / tachy Like the sinn 157

  35. #35
Probably too big for me, especially lug to lug, 40mm x 48mm and I'd be all over it.

Quite like the aged lume, I know it s a bit Marmite for some but done well I think it looks good.

Like the BOR bracelet too though less keen on the date.

Hold on. I thought that for both these movements the 24h subdial (at 3) was a day/night indicator, and not a totaliser or part of the chrono at all.........

I should add, in no particular order

I love the idea, well done.
I am ambivalent over the vintage lume, but have a preference for white for legibility
I like the idea of a slate dial over black
I too would prefer ever so slightly smaller, if possible
I did not see a case thickness. Given the WR, I am guessing at 12-13mm or so??
I really am not a fan of a single usable sub-dial (30 min chrono), and a second one that is a slave day/night indicator. I think running seconds and 30 mins would be best, but I really do appreciate the total lack of movements available to achieve this. Seagull or nothing, it seems
I like all of the hand designs. Are they white or metallic? I would prefer white.
The blurb says crown diameter 6mm and pushers 5mm, but the pushers look considerably less (by comparison). Have they been drawn at 5mm, they look skinnier? My ruler on the screen suggests 18mm for the crown and only 12mm for the pushers, so if the crown is 6mm, it seems the pushers have been drawn at 4mm......

I like the first version with 2 sub-dials much better.

The aged lume & BoR bracelet would stop me buying.

The first version could be improved to my eye by:-

    Date @ 6
Smaller / shorter chrono pushers - those look too fragile / vulnerable.
Sub-dials to not eat into the other markings - make very slightly smaller, or move in to the centre a tad.

I am not a potential buyer as I don't need a chrono, so take what I say with a pinch of salt. The watch looks too big for the dial. I think that I would lose the tachymeter scale, then scale up what is left. Lume? There seems to be a lot of negativity about "old" lume throughout the forum.

  44. #44
Version 1 with a lighter lume and a 12 hour bezel would be good

Version 1 definately more to my liking. I would also add myself to the list of those generally not enamoured of faux aged lume, but I do appreciate thisis a piece styled to look vintage and, as such, modern lume brighter than Tom Cruise’s smile would look equally out of place. As long as it is done sympathetically, it would not be adeal breaker. The same goes for the bezel choice. I am sure a matt ceramic would work, though sapphire seems more popular, so far.
Generally though, speaking as a person who is not really a chronograph fan, this could spark my interest in that style of watch. Good luck with the continued development.

Very nice - and quite reminiscent of a Breguet and other make' Type XX French Air Force Chrono. Whether 2 or 3 sundials, can we place have it with a 0-12 rather than a 0-60 bezel, like these?

Arggh! I missed that. That would rule it out for me, I'm afraid. I find a 30 minutes totaliser hard to read accurately at a glance. A 60-minute sub dial is going to be virtually impossible for me - and I do generally prefer running seconds.

How about fitting the centre-minute type quartz ETA 251.264 - the current version of the one in the PRS-17C? You could end up with something which combines the classic look you've offered, with practical readability. I'd go for that, with two sub dials, or three.
