    Close up pics

I know there are some very capable photographers on here so thought it might be fun to have a thread devoted purely to close up shots. I’ve yet to get a good macro lens for my SLR so I’m stuck with iPhone but I’ll start off with this from today

Certainly not capable, but here is a few random pics.

Boot print on the Omega Speedmaster moon phase

spot of lube on the pallet jewel

    Sapphire jewels

    Rusty pivot

    Spiral pattern in dirty lube

    "Furry" battery contact

Reverser wheels with a ridiculous number of jewels

    Needs no introduction

    Good example of pivot wear

Bezel on my DOXA Sub 1500t...

Same type of shot showing my Navitimer on a blue Brady sailcloth strap...

Both images taken with an iPhone fitted with a cheap but surprisingly effective clip-on macro lens.

Amazing the fidelity of some of these photos taken with a phone and a cheap clip-on lens.

I'll play, I don't have a decent camera or a clip on makro lense. I do have an old Nokia phone and a loupe though.

Damn... was going for a high fidelity shot so you could see the attention to detail on the generation 2. Fail.

    Not so easy . . . . . . .

    German simplicity

And German less simple -- I'm always impressed by the huge gap between the date wheels

Classy, but not excessively so, and still rocking that Helvetica date - way cool.

Always noticed half the day date window reflected light differently only when I took this pic could I see why! £1 clip on macro lens too

Spent thousands on a new mirrorless camera setup, but this was taken with a £20 Belomo loupe, on my smartphone. Can't believe it!

One of the few threads in a very long time which has made me completely reassess the effort that goes into production. Most of the intricacies are lost to the average naked eye, but my God, these photos show unbelievable craftsmanship and attention to details (read "perfection"). Some quite breathtaking work and detail.

Thanks to those who have posted; time to get myself a macro lens and see my pieces in finer detail.

Keep these coming, as mentioned in a previous post, the close-up shots make you realise how much work has gone into these devices, even at the cheaper end of the spectrum. When I get 5 minutes I'll have a go myself.

Can folks recommend some macro options for an iPhone, and for any avid photographers, something for a Ricoh GR?

    Thanks

I paid @ £2.50 on ebay for a clip on set of lenses for my iPhone and they're fine for a quick close up, albeit you need to take care with light and focus. The set screw together to give wide angle, fisheye and macro. Olloclip do more expensive offerings, but who keeps a phone long enough to justify the cost? https://www.olloclip.com/. This shot is the balance on the Unitas in my Archimede Deck Watch

There are some great shots here... thank you

I have now ordered a lens kit for the phone but was wondering if anyone uses a light box / tent to get such great pictures?

It's not a great picture, but for my shot in post *43 I balanced the iPhone at the required height for focus, used the self timer to take the shot, and as the timer was counting down used a sheet of white A4 in each hand to reflect the light to where I wanted it.

^^^ I'd say it was a great picture, given the equipment used.

As an aside, which iPhone was it?

Ok, that’s really helpful, thank you... but a great picture if I may say so.

I have seen some cheap (less than a tenner) light boxes with built in LED lights... but a sheet or 2 of A4 sounds none to complicated. I presume you were using a tripod of some sort, unless you have a steady hand?
