Thread: Thinking of buying one of Erika’s Originals MN straps for my PRS18 COSC

Thinking of buying one of Erika’s Originals MN straps for my PRS18 COSC

Quite like the look of the green with yellow stripe.
In terms of the buckle would you say that the patina version would work best with the finish of the PRS 18?
Ive never tried this type of strap before so would appreciate any feedback and opinions from owners. Thanks.

Thinking of buying one of Erika’s Originals MN straps for my PRS18 COSC

I think they are great straps and very comfortable
I have 2, one on my original snowflake and the other on the Pelagos
I should think the buckle would match the case quite well.
The grey has the lumed centre stripe

They do suit Tudors very well.
Would the green with yellow stripe be considered the original/authentic colour scheme?

Yes. I have one of the plain ones from the Paris based army surplus store called outre-mer. And it is green and yellow.

Their a great looking strap. I was thinking of one for the Black Bay, but am a little unsure with the strap thickness lifting the watch higher as it’s thick anyway.

    Cheers

I also have an original and it's green with a red stripe. (Just too small for my wrist)
So I guess they came in both colours.

I have one of the Erika’s MN straps and it isn’t too thick, a bit thicker than your average NATO but thinner than a Zulu.
But of course it is an additional layer under the watch.

For the OP, if you find a colour combo you like I’d recommend these straps for how comfortable they are. Being elastic they effectively mould around your wrist without being tight.

If by origin then yes; these were used on the 'ventral' [reserve] parachute on the French parachute system during the seventies and eighties and so were green with the yellow stripe:

I saw guys use this as a watch strap in the French Navy Diving School at St Mandrier in the eighties.

Just ordered my third from Erika, this time a blue one for fixed bars, to go on a CWC Diver.

The two i have already are both on Gruppo Gammas and i find them both to be excellent. A 22mm Black is on my Vanguard and a 24mm Green on the Ascent. As far as making the watch sit too high IMO its negligible and cancelled out by the snug fit and less movement of watch head on the wrist especially for the heavier watch.

I've also had mine for a day now.

After an initial panic about fit and size and had she made it correctly - I then watched the tutorial and had a play.

Took the time to micro adjust and make sure everything was where I wanted it.

    I am very very happy.

The Patina hardware is a perfect match for the 18 and I'd go as far as to say that it's the most comfy strap I've ever worn.

    Cheers,
    Martin

Just got this grey Mirage version, goes very well with my Sinn 103 Ti Diapal.
A bit fiddly to adjust but after watching the instruction video I have now got it. Very comfortable especially with a titanium watch, hardly know I'm wearing it.
Will defiantly buy more of these straps.

Is there much adjustment in the strap?

Plenty, I would say about 2-3" I think when you order they take your wrist size for the mid point

That's really nice, the grey looks a lighter shade on her website.

Fairly quick - not more than a week in my experience.

I’ve got the mirage version with a white (non-lume) centre line.
I’m seriously considering getting another one, probably the original version. They are very comfortable and versatile.

In a couple of cases, I’ve found that the strap enhanced the looks of the watches I’ve put it on... always a good thing

Thanks for the inspiration! Looks great and very comfortable.

Size seems right. Initially thought the buckle should be in the middle under my wrist (probably ought to be??) but this way I won’t feel the buckle when I rest my arms on my desk while desk diving (nor will I wreck the laptop).

are they original though I thought the original straps were just an elastic one piece strap without a buckle?

There is much discussion - it seems the ones without ironware are the first of the imitation - but they are actually supplied by French army surplus stores so have some credibility.
It seems that the originals used the bent flat hook to lock into a simple steel square loop.
Erika's also adds a tri-slide for safe length adjustment (originally this was done using loose ends tucked under - a bit sketchy it seems).
The MN on the clasp is totally fabricated.

Interesting read, interview with Erika. She mentions the original straps were just a loop, but therefore don't allow for adjustment hence she designed it the way it is. She also states the buckle ends up on the side of your wrist so it won't scratch against desk or table tops.

Would the green with yellow stripe be considered the original/authentic colour scheme?
If by origin then yes; these were used on the 'ventral' parachute on the French parachute system during the seventies and eighties and so were green with the yellow stripe

Elasticated bands of various shades of green both with either yellow or red stripes were used on the ventral (501 or 511). Therefore they are equally "authentic".

To be accurate, contrary to what is written in the article, the material is not "unused parachute static lines " (the one that extracts the "dorsal" main chute) as they are larger and not elasticated, but a simple system to pull instantly the protective cover of the ventral when released.

    Those straps are great

These are superb straps probably the best of the NATO style straps you can get IMHO. I have a blue on on my Tudor 9411 which looks perfect.
