    ROLEX ceramic insert removal

Does anybody know if the ceramic insert can be removed via DIY or is this a pro job only?

Pro I'm afraid, lots of risk of it shattering.

Removal is possible tho NOT RECOMMENDED!

Refitting is about IMPOSSIBLE, without grinding 100-200microns of the diameter you'll then need to use a flexible cement-glue.

Just curious as to why you would even try it and what would you replace it with. A shattered insert could cost close to four figures to replace, I wouldn't risk it.

Interested to know what you are proposing to do.

I’ve got a new bezel for my DSSD but don’t have a new insert so was going to try and swap them over somehow without taking it to RSC

Best using RSC as the ceramic installation is RISKY.

Five separate purpose-built jigs are necessary to do the job properly. If you have access to them, then go for it.

When has that ever put people off trying. Surely it’s no more difficult than putting together ikea furniture with a wife !?!

If you're prepared to grind 0.05mm-0.10mm of the diameter and cement-glue the insert its quite easy, BUT WITH ROLEX best to have it fitted 100% properly IMO.

Why buy bezel and not just take it to Rolex? My RSC was willing to replace insert only so I assume they would replace bezel only also.

I wonder how much heat would be required to expand the bezel enough to allow the insert to drop in.

Or freeze the insert... probably safer to try it in the freezer first then heat the bezel.

I wonder if freezing the insert would make it more brittle.

Not that I’m suggesting actually doing the repair I should add.

Yer heating the bezel and freezing the ceramic insert can work.

Not sure how much ceramic changes with temperature.
Certainty not as much as metal.
