Thread: End game AP...

  1. #51
Thank you for some lovely comments this is indeed a grail piece!

I came to the decision just after Xmas I wanted to down size my collection and get a few choice pieces and this model fulfils one of them.

I wanted a watch that really showed off the art of the movement, ok there are some great movements to admire from the caseback but I wanted to see it every time I looked at my wrist and to me this is the best openworked out there.

And yep I’ll be wearing it in Tescos doing my weekly shop, or maybe I should start going to Waitrose haha

Wow, just gorgeous. That beauty can be really called an end game watch ;)

Much more special than a 15300 or 15400 these days. Enjoy wearing it.

I kind of like it. It may just be because I don't think AP does dials particularly well but it doesn't matter.

I think it's a wise move to consolidate, ultimately you can only wear one watch.

I think with a watch like this every time you looked at the time you'd get a little bit of enjoyment. There'd always be some part of the movement you'd notice for the first time

It actually allows more light through then expected I’ve tried to demonstrate it below.

A nice little treat is you can hear the beat louder then any other watch I’ve owned.

So what are the other targets ?

A complication piece, grail would be the RO Ceramic PC but that’s not going to happen so I might hold out until SIHH 19 to see if AP does a new RO PC variant or the PP 5164a and 5990a are on the shortlist, I’m not overly sold on PM watches nor am I on dress watches so complication piece choices are limited.

Would love an AP tourbillion but they are out of range unless I went with my SDc and one choice piece but after viewing the RO tourbillion extra-thin openworked I prefer the openworked 15407st.

The 116600 which is my favourite Rolex and my daily wear,

The RG hands/markers really contrast well against the rhodium dial/movement

Yes my photography skills are pretty poor!

Might get some professional ones done as it would make a great pic to hang up in the office.

That’s one of those ‘you win at life’ pieces. Bet it makes you smile every time it catches your eye

Greys have them up for around £50k but retail from the AP Lounge is £37,200

I like the older ones as a neat trick is they had dual colour lume.

Thank you and yes it does feel somewhat rewarding to look at it but odd in another way the value I have on my wrist!
But we’ve me turing 40 this year and the arrival of my first boy due next month it seemed fitting to mark this year.

To Tesco? What a watch! One of the ones you would love to see in real life one day let alone own. I bet a few cars will be beeping you after the light turns green and you’re still staring at your watch! Congrats.

Thought I’d found the next watch to save for, it’s stunning!

I then researched further, and realised it’s never going to happen for me.

That’s truly an amazing watch, enjoy it & thanks for sharing. I’ve spent far too long looking at pictures of it since your first post - alas, prior to seeing the reality of what I could afford!

So much detail inside, probably the most interesting I’ve seen in a long while. Happy Easter!

Quite easily, RG hands contrast very well against the dark rhodium movement. Just doesn’t photograph well!

I appreciate the quality of the workmanship but skeletonised is not for me. Congratulations on achieving a piece you clearly love though.

I would like to say the pictures of the new Rolex GMT are fabulous and if that watch actually fulfills the same rendering in person it looks like it would be the perfect watch. Unfortunately many watches have come and gone with their doll photos and when actually held in hand do not fit the same press photos. There is something to be said about handling the watch in person before buying.

I actually walked away from the Hamilton Pan Europ when it came out because the silver subdials made it illegible to my eye.

It`s an interesting piece but for me my game would of ended with the 26400IO - that was a hell of a thing.
What happened to that one, did you have to let it go to the dealer for this one?

That will change I’m seriously considering the 26405ce as my next piece need some AP ceramic in the collection.

That is an incredibly stunning watch pitbull. I keep coming back to this thread to marvel at the pictures.

I was looking at my 15407 today and earlier in the thread I mentioned that the gold bits were unexpectedly shiny. Well, that appears to be under bright lights only. When I handled it in the shop at purchase time, there were bright lights and the gold bits really popped out. The watch hadn't been out the box since but today in normal light, the gold bits are actually quite matte and the RG hands show the time very well indeed.

Reason mine's still boxed with blue stickers is that I'm undecided whether I want to keep it or trade for something else. Taking the stickers off will take off a chunk of value no doubt.

I like mine a lot but am not smitten

Thanks guys, still bespotted with this thing!

But there clearly is an issue with telling the time on it! I find myself staring at the movement I forget what time it is hahaha

AP have certainly put together an excellent video! Given the work put into the watch, I'd say it actually represents 'pretty decent' value relative to peers in that price range. One thing your images probably don't convey so well is the finishing of the movement (no disrespect to your pics!), which from the video looks pretty good!
