    Skype and the UAE

I wonder if anyone can suggest an alternative to Skype for use in the UAE, please?

My reason for asking is that my brother used to call his son weekly on Skype and keep in contact with his grandson etc. Now Skype has been banned in the UAE (link).

The object is to establish a PC to PC video link rather than using mobile devices. He's going to try https://videolink2.me/, but any other suggestions will be gratefully received.

Many thanks...in anticipation of help from the forum.

A VPN client the UAE end, unless they've blocked that too.

I should have said...that was our first thought, too. But I gather VPNs are banned as well and being an ex-pat school teacher on contract, my nephew isn't going to take any chances with the authorities in the UAE.

"Legal Alternatives to Skype in the UAE

In order to use VoIP services legally, both telecom providers have suggested VoIP-based apps BOTIM and C’Me. These apps are now both added as part of their “unlimited” voice and video call services.
Here’s how you can get it.

Starting at a monthly fee of Dh50 for mobile users, Etisalat users can subscribe by sending an SMS ‘ICP’ to 1012 or through their Etisalat app. While du users can SMS ‘Netcall’ to 1355."

Bloody crooks, thats aprox £9.00 for sweet FA !

There is something I've discovered appear.in
Can use it for multiple users/conference video call.

Thanks for that suggestion...I'll pass it on.

I know you wanted to avoid mobiles but I think FaceTime and WhatsApp offer the best alternatives.
