After about 2 minutes of googling, I'm going with SBGW003.

Hand wound limited edition of 300 from 1998.

    First GS
    SBGP013 9f85 quartz
First move away from divers. Feels different on the wrist, lighter less solid feeling and less presence but I'm sure I'll get used to it
The blue sunburst dial is amazing though...just need some sun to really see it!

I'm loving mine and it's getting a lot more wrist time than the Breitling that went to make way in the collection.

The SBGP013 doesn't have a sunburst dial though, just a flat - but gorgeous - dark blue dial.

You're right it doesn't but does seem to really pop like one under lights

It was your posts that convinced me to get one!

Glad I'm some use :-) and I hope your second hand hits the markers just as perfectly as mine does (now).

The watch usually looks so simple and plain but every once it a while it just catches the light just right and looks exceptional. It's a wonderful GS trait.

Few, finally made it! Been reading through the whole thread over last few days. It's been really interesting as it's full of good photos of watches that I really don't know. The spring drive appeals to me and I can see the finishing, and the beauty in many of these dials is... Wow!

I'm a diver fan and the bulk, the presence of these GS divers appeals even though my wrist is only ~16.5cm. I've a Seiko sumo so I know Seiko can do some incredibly comfortable and wearable, large divers. Tempted by a sbga229 or 231, simple class and the spring drive, fabulous, although the sbgh257 case and dial look fabulous too.

I'm not in a position to buy anything for a while but I'll be learning more and watching the GS news I think. Are they watches best bought pre owned? What sort of price do pre owned GS divers command?

I think I bought and sold a couple of the GS divers you mention - was about £4k pre-owned for the sbga231 I think?
I have owned both the 231 and the 229.

If you search on Sales Corner you should see at least my sales posts and possibly others, as a guide on pricing.

The titanium was better than the steel version, in my opinion.
They are a big watch, and it will be a large lump of steel on your wrist.
I actually sold both of mine as they wore too big - not by much, but enough for me to never fully bond with it.
That is all personal preference though, of course.

I have now resolved the issue by getting the new GS hi-beat diver, which comes in a few mm smaller and is absolutely perfect for me.

If you can visit a GS dealer, most of them seem to have both the SD and hi-beat divers in stock so you can try them for size.

If you can, barter hard for anything new.
The RRP is a bit steep on both the SD and hi-beat versions but you should find 15-20% off with little effort.

Go pre-owned on the Spring Drive divers and you should easily save 30+% off current RRP.

Thanks not enough, yes I saw and admired your sbga229 or 231, although didn't clock you'd had both!
Looking on grand Seiko's website they've been updated again, sbga461 and 463 now. 44.2mm. That's the same as size/same case isn't it? Just slight changes to the bezel markers and addition of a3 o'clock lume marker on the chapter ring.

That ^^^ up there is lovely! Sbgh291? 0.5mm smaller, is that noticeable?

The slga001 looks like a 'new 257' blimey it is as big as it looks! 47mm is panerai size, wow! Probably too big but hey, it has appeal.

When I next head back to the office I'll have to head to the boutique near Harrods and take a look in the flesh.

    .
    Morning,
    Yes, surprisingly!
The reduction in size is far more noticeable when worn than the stats would imply.

They must have played with some other dimensions and it just sits so well.

    Good luck on the hunt!

SBGM001 - sorry about the terrible photograph. Really nice watch, quite a nice bracelet (all brushed oyster) and clasp, too. I was looking for one of these or the SBGE001, now think I made the right decision because the SBGE is very very big.

What are your thoughts on this? I'm mulling up a decision between this and the SBGH273. RRP is similar but I can get 25% off the SBGH273 but only around 10% off the Shunbun so in the real world the Shunbun would be around £800 more.

How pink is it in reality?

It only turns pink at the right angle the rest of the time it is silvery white with a hint of blush.

Always loved that 44GS case, but now even better with the new thinner profile.

Grand Seiko continue perfecting their watches.

Agree. They've taken that 44GS case and added all the improvements to make it even more luxury. Looks superb. I'd imagine the 62GS case might be next.

Lovely watches. Curious how the 44GS inspired case handles in real life with smears and small scratches due to the highly polished case? Tried one recently and love the shape. In posts above the all look brand new still.

Great pick up: That’s my favourite GS. If I had the cash or call for a dressy GMT, I’d be all over one. One of those I’m happy to admire from afar.
