Love the aggressive case lugs there, and all that lume. The script for the date looks really interesting too - much more detailed than usual.

Is the lume as potent as it looks, or does it fade before daylight comes?

Those GS's above look just fantastic, I love that blue intricate dial!

My new arrival is a bit more boring, it's the SBGV233. I've had a few Grand Seiko's before, SBGX061 which is very similar to the one I've now bought and a very nice SBGJ203. Both I've sold within a year of their arrival. SBGX061 was maybe a bit too much of an understatement for me, and while the SBGJ203 was super beautiful, the top heavy case was never that comfortable and I really like lume on my GMT travel watches.

The SBGV233 is the newer 40mm variant of the basic quartz GS. This was not really on my list, but I one came up for sale locally for a good price so I went for it. I've only worn it a day and given my history with GS I wouldn't make too much of this yet, but I really like it. It's quite plain and simple, and very comfortable to wear. However, at the larger size it has great appearance. I was a bit hesitant with the 40mm size as my wrists are quite slim at 6,5 inch, but this wears absolutely fine. Side-by-side with my ceramic Sub this has somewhat larger dial, but smaller and significantly thinner case. The lugs also turn down quite strongly creating nice contour with the wrist. I'm actually quite surprised that I like it so much!-)

So, here on my wrist, I don't think it looks too large in any way:

To me, the ‘basic quartz’ you describe is one of the very finest GS designs, looking back to the 1960s and never dating or looking old. In fact, I suspect it will endure when many later designs are forgotten. It is the very essence of Grand Seiko design.

That looks v nice and not boring at all! I'm missing a GS atm as I had to sell a white quartz SBGX059 and a SBGN003 GMT to part fund an SLA037.. I was thinking when I'm 'flush' again I will buy another SBGN003 but seeing your new quartz is making me think a simple 3 hander is the better option..

SLGH005 - White Birch ordered yesterday, officially released on 1st March and I will have mine a day or two later as the dealer actually had one in stock, but cannot release it in advance.

    Photos nicked from the web:

That's my 60th birthday present to myself for later in the year taken care of.

    Yep, will do.

Almost a minimalist dial, the word automatic which appeared on the Blue 003 was left off and no power reserve indicator like on the spring drives helps keep the dial clear.

Not a limited edition, but does feature the 9SA5 high beat movement.

Looking forward to this one arriving.

Ive had plenty Seikos, so it's a natural step up. I did own the Godzilla the other week and moved that on, but it was a stunning watch. The White Birch ticks so many boxes, size, height, dial, quality, bracelet, in fact there is nothing not to like.

It was either this or something similar or another Speedmaster Moonphase. I was down on the list for a Z-Blue Milgauss, but dealership failure to deliver ended that

I very much look forward to seeing the pictures and the 9SA5 on my 003 has lost two seconds this week so it’s as pleasing mechanically as it is aesthetically.

A splendid way to celebrate a milestone.

Apologies if it's not quite the right place to ask but this is a Grand Seiko thread... Has anyone owned or seen the 273 Autumn Special Edition for the USA? I'm really attracted to this one and wondered on peoples thoughts. Cheers

I went ahead and bought one anyway and boy I’m glad I did, I love it. Some quick pics taken today in and out of the light to try to show the dial texture. I give you the 273!

I have to blame Topcat30093 (Tony) and buying his 293 as a gateway to this purchase. It’s a 62GS case, high-beat with an amazing dial and I love the contrast gold second hand.

It’s pretty much perfect, apart from the bracelet screws! I’ll leave it on the bracelet for a while as it looks pretty good as is and if I want a dressier look I’ll pop on the 293.

I may be slightly late to the GS party but I’m an instant convert. What’ are your thoughts on the pair?

My SBGX337 - it's just beautifully executed. The dial is almost royal blue in bright light but almost black at other times. It sometimes looks matt but actually has a very fine sunburst to it. The yellow second hand adds a little lightness and fun to its appearance. I'm very pleased with it :)

That is beautiful, great blue and texture on the dial!

Perfect use of gold too, really powerful but restrained.

Posting this one again, now after having worn it for a few weeks. It just feels better, the size makes a big difference! I have and have had quartz watches before, but it's again nice to have one that is always on time and you can just take it out of the watch box and put it on. I was in a hurry this morning and not surprisingly, this is what I'm wearing:

I think they stopped making this model. May be able to pick one up second hand. Not sure how many they made. I emailed Seiko but they said they don't disclose production quantities. Just weighed it and it's 119 grams on a leather strap.
