I always liked Bob's thoughtful posts. Maybe he needed a break from the forum - be a shame not to crack 20,000 posts.

A really nice chap who knew a lot and used to make his own watches rather than just talk about them.

Forum's losing too many of the characters thesedays, Bob's contributions were excellent, clearly a very capable clever guy.
That explains it. Perhaps he's on tour.
If I remember correctly he also had interest in time servers and such like. The Pips maybe?
Always an interesting post from Bob. Some just reminded me of how intellectually stunted some of my thinking can be at times!

Looking back at some of the very interesting interchanges with Bob in the Digital Photography sub forum I realised that sundial doesn't post much at all these days.
Reports of my disappearance are somewhat exaggerated.
We moved to Oxford from B'ham in the spring of '16. Traumatic, especially after about 20 years living in B'ham. Then as soon as we got in and term ended, we had to get ready to go to New Zealand for a month. Since then, I've done a lot of DIY, nay, an enormous amount. Standard decorating (painting, etc.); landscaping before a garden room was put in; landscaping afterwards; redoing stairs (v. old stairs); trying to fix a deck, then deciding it had to go, and putting in new deck; setting up a workshop in part of the garden room, and the list goes on. Consequently, I've had little time for anything watch related, or photography related, for that matter. So, little of interest to contribute, and, therefore, silence. However, things are becoming more sane on the home front (although picking up on the work front), and I've started to find a bit more time. I've even started to work on a watch for a colleague. Here's a picture of it on the bench.

Although it is a reply to an old post, I am still interested in time servers. So, any excuse for a post.
Here's a picture of my current one. I've had it going since June.
It is a Raspberry PI with a Trimble GPS Timing Receiver. I also use the Raspberry for whole house sync'd music (MPD + Snapcast), the OTA server for my Lineage OS (Android) self builds for my phone and tablets, and the controller for the house's network (Ubiquiti router + 2 APs). So, it is a rather busy Raspberry, and it isn't as electronically stable/isolated as it should be.
Here's a graph of the Raspberry's timekeeping compared to getting the time from a remote NTP server.
If you change the scaling quite a bit, you can see some of the electrical fluctuations of the Raspberry.
If I were to change the scaling even more, you could see when I've been streaming music. ;)
I just had a look at its current state. It has been a quiet day, so it has been relatively stable, and the time offset looks pretty good.

Just caught up with this thread and really good to know that you’re still around, Bob - there are increasingly few of those of us who joined the forum in 2004 still around! Your banter with Crusader was always on a different intellectual plane, as I recall.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was thinking about Bob earlier today having found something he sent me many years ago.
I googled his name to see if he was still in Oxford and was sad to read that dear Bob passed away in February this year. Apologies if this is already known, but to some it may be news, as it was for me. Very sad news.

Was Bob only in his 60s?
Very sad news. He made many contributions to TZ UK. Bob was a very active cyclist and self-taught watchmaker / dial-maker, and at one time was a close friend of Ming Thein - before Ming moved to Kuala Lumpur. Also a friend of Eddie Platts. I wonder if Ming is aware that Bob has died? I have messaged Ming via his website.
