    Space X - Falcon Heavy.

I’ve become a bit of a space geek recently....launch is now pencilled in for February 6th after recent static fire tests were successful. Any one else as sad as me out there...?

I was going to post a thread on this too :-) Should be quite the show - if it fails it'll be a massive explosion but if it lifts off and is successful it will be a remarkable success - a Tesla in heliocentric orbit - two side boosters returning to the launch pad simultanteously and the centre booster landing on a barge in the ocean! Lets hope there aren't any more delays.

When we were in Florida, the 'normal' launch of a SpaceX rocket got postponed, so we missed that. In the days before, I did some recon work and had found a nice spot to watch all this. I looked at the video of the static test with the Heavy last week... Man, it doesn't matter where you are! The noise and smoke msut be so overpowering! I think Seattle would still be a proper spot to watch it go!

On the pic, on the right: the building itself is massive! You can spot that from miles and miles away when you're approaching the rocket coast. The cloud on the left is rising hundreds of meters into the air on this pic.

The schedule for 2018 is still very fluid, It's a long shot but I've got my fingers crossed for a launch during our visit in July.

World's most expensive firework, or world's most impressive private-company achievement.

Not sure which I think it's going to be just yet.

If you've got ~20 minutes to kill, this chap has emulated the SpaceX rockets in his back yard.
He also clearly articulates the physics problems that have to be overcome in words that I understand !!

Some of his other projects are cool, too.

Big fan, livestream all Space X launches. Very excited for Falcon Heavy if it goes ahead tomorrow.

If anyone has a passing interest in space and gaming, I can not recommend Kerbal Space Programme enough!

I'll be watching the live stream with my 12-year-old daughter tomorrow afternoon, SpaceX developments and ambitions have really captured her imagination.

The SpaceX Youtube channel is full of interesting and entertaining videos. We enjoy this one; if at first you don't succeed...

Utterly brilliant and I hugely admire SpaceX's ability to bring a bit of humour to the whole proceedings e.g.

Ever the showman, Musk is launching his old Tesla Roadster into orbit atop the Falcon Heavy:

"[The roadster will] get about 400 million km away from Earth, and it'll be doing 11km/s," he told reporters in a briefing on Monday. "We estimate it will be in that orbit for several hundred million years, maybe in excess of a billion years."

    This I have to see...

They'll certainly start the live-stream then, with the launch at any time up to 21:00 GMT. If not today, then the same times for tomorrow's window.

Update Launch delayed by "high upper-atmosphere winds" until 20:10 GMT at the earliest (link).

    Update Now 20:45...

Delayed to a launch time of 20:05 GMT because of upper level wind shear.

    Now slays till 20:45 GMT.

Looking like it’s not going to happen today. Hopefully it will!

They have another window tomorrow evening.

Best feed will be on the YouTube Space X page. Find it via their website.

All the US news channels are covering it too.

I would expect the one on the SpaceX site that Reeny posted a link to earlier should be up there (unlike the rocket at the moment).

A friend from the US sent me his thoughts: Seems like launching a Tesla into deep space could be a really good cover story for something else being launched.

His idea about this? Musk never does something without adding a hidden gem. Remember the way he introduced the BAMF truck with the 'oh by the way, here's the new Roadster' message as well. Room for speculations!

That's one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. Here's hoping the core landed successfully on the drone ship.

Awesome. How's the core? I can't believe they haven't got another camera filming away from the ship.

Word is on a Dutch site that the Centre Core didn't make it. No confirmation yet.
