I thought it was illegal to sell fakes? And who pays £650 for a fake?

    Repeat offenders.

I know a similar business whose stores regularly describe unhallmarked yellow metal as “gold” in clear contravention of the Hallmarking Act.

Don’t be surprised if one or two major “buy-back” businesses (or their local divisions) are not wound up / sold off within the next 12 months.

It is illegal to sell fake watches in the UK

They probably took it in as genuine and tried to sell it as such until someone pointed it out.

I was born and raised in a shithole town near Accrington, and I can only imagine this having been ripped out of someone's cold dead hands on the streets before being weighed in to buy a bag of smack. Grim.

Wow this is outrageous! Wonder if they knew it was a fake when they bought it? Remember an episode of Hardcore Pawn where poor old Les bought a fake AP.

    Good luck moving this on

Can't believe they are asking £650 for horrid piece of tat!

Presumably selling fakes would be legal if they didn't (ab)use someone else's trademarks???

    Thumbs up

I suppose ‘Cash generators’ sounds like a copy of ‘Cash converters’ so maybe not a surprising sale haha

Seriously though, what a crazy thing for a legitimate company (assuming they are as I’d never heard of them) to be doing! Knowingly selling a fake watch and for a crazy price too. I wonder if some numpty would actually buy it on some sort of high interest payment plan they no doubt do! Probably be able to buy a real one.

I guess a fake without a logo would be in the gap between fakes and hommages!

Not according to a New York judge in 2014. The lookalike Royal Oaks, sold under the Swiss Legend brand didn't have the AP name or logo or the words Royal Oak on them, but the judge still awarded nearly $10m in damages for infringement of trademark rights.

Perhaps an E-Mail to AP might have the desired effect.

Incredibly, the fake "Audemars" is still listed as I write despite tz membership having apparently highlighted the watch to the seller.

A third party, however, has now fully engaged with the matter...

What the hell?! To sell fakes is one thing, but that price.....

Surely no one will ever buy this unless they chuck it in with the sale of a Sanyo cassette player or something

I emailed them about a week ago (and posted the email address on this thread). No reply, obviously. I even included a link to the City of London police website explaining the illegality of counterfeit.

There doesn't seem to be such a thing as local trading standards these days so people happily deal counterfeit goods knowing there is little chance of being prosecuted.

I linked to the store's local trading standards department in an earlier message. Here's the link: http://www.lancashire.gov.uk/busines...standards.aspx

    ** edit - update**

Crossed out above since there's now no need for anyone else to contact Lancashire Trading Standards. :-)

This watch now has historical significance due to this thread and is certainly worth the money.

A bit harsh on my home town of Blackburn. It is not that bad, very high immigrant population and low house prices but it does have a very good high end second hand watch shop too.

I would agree my hometown too!
Suppose it's where you frequented and who with. Raised up higher Croft myself best days of my life wouldn't change it for the world.
Mind you wouldn't fancy living there now! Shame the red brick estate next to it roman road gave it a bad name!
