going to be a Manuia, made by 4 of the Newcastle Falcons team. I think it is actually brewed by the Full Circle boys in Byker. Nice crisp brew, possibly a pilsner. It tastes like a good lager with an IPA vibe

A few good ones over the weekend.

Visited Siren’s pub (the George & Dragon in Swallowfield) and enjoyed a pint of their Best Bitter…

Then dropped into their taproom and to Elusive Brewing for supplies.

After that I went over to Reigate for the evening and had a good session trying Pilgrim Brewery’s wares at their tap…

Pioneer (their APA), Saxon (Hefe) and Saracen (Nitro Stout) were standout.

And finishing up with some recent arrivals. This rocker from Robinson’s…

And some summer sours from Vault City…

Berliner Weisse with a twist. Neon raptor are releasing their annual take on Berliner Weisse this weekend with what looks like 3 different flavours.
In the past these have been heavy on the stone fruit flavours with a slight sour finish. Can highly recommend, especially in the sunshine.

When it's hot and sunny something a lot colder than the temperature that ale/stout/porter should be quaffed at is needed . . .

Philistine!, I hear you wail! Trust me, nowt more refreshing than a snakey on a hot day. Gotta be Scrumpy Jack for that thick lumpy head , and preferably Stella, but hey ho needs must.

That takes me back, and yes Stella for taste and effect.

Snakebite and black kept me going for most of my first year at Warwick. A friend graduated with a 2:1 and had promised to have "a diesel" in every bar on campus if he got that degree. He managed 8 pints before the inevitable multicoloured yawn happened. Well it wasn't so much multicoloured as just pink, from the black...

Still, it's a plan for this weekend coming. Snakebites, not yawning. :)

After a 6km walk into Gloucester Docks it seemed rude not to call into Gloucester Brewery & try their new Sting limited edition DH Berliner Weiss.

    Very refreshing.

I’m on holiday in Cornwall (finally), and very happy to be 250m from a St Austell pub. Pints of Proper Job will be supp’d.

Meantime the fridge has some treats I brought down with me til I can get over to Verdant next week for a holiday case.

    Last night was this trio:

An excellent Weisse from the US, smooth as silk with spicy clove and banana in abundance.

A trip to Wales for “Modern Love”, a barrel-aged saison which was really enjoyable. I had it with my fish n chips. Not the most adroit pairing but it worked! I usually share these tall bottles but boshed the lot myself as a holiday treat.

And finally, a completely unnecessary Double IPA in the west coast style. Double Oregon Trail gives Elusive’s regular OT a shot in the arm for full-on, marmaladey, piney drying bitterness. Loved this one and will search out some more.

A new beer shop has opened locally so I thought I'd broaden my horizons and make a rare foray into the world of brightly coloured tins.

Not particularly impressed. Finding it a bit sweet and sickly.

Update: had to pour the last quarter away. Wasn't enjoying it at all.

As it's just dethroned Bud Lite as America's No 1 beer, I thought I'd try some Modelo Especial. Nice, light, fresh and not stupid strong at 4.5%.

Takes all sorts. I’m a Verdant investor and I happen to think that’s a lovely beverage. But if we all liked the same things it’d be a dull world eh!?

Surely there can’t have been another time in history where the choice of beer has been so vast. I’m still loving Beavertown Neck Oil.

Very local to me to but sadly they are no longer. The owner had the brewery up for sale but there were no takers and they closed down a month or two ago.

First was one of my favourite brews. Still have two bottles left.
