Indeed I am Alan! That porter was likely right up my street. It's high time you put in an appearance in the Vic mind . . . ;-)

I lumped a few bottles back in my bag from Fenwick's excellent drinks department recently, including the last I posted. I've been trying to get 'em quaffed . . .

This is the remains of the Xmas beer stash.
I guess I will get around to them at some point.

It is indeed now brewed by Shepherd Neame, although originally it was brewed by Jennings in Cockermouth. It's not that long ago it was £1:09 and 5%, certainly in April '22, when the picture below was taken. Now it's £1:29 and 4.5%. Still tastes great and still good value at that price though.

That's right. The last time I took a snap when it was so called to post here was Jan 2021. They've dropped the "colour" name from others in the range too, eg Golden Goose is now "Gold Ale".

Adnams Blackshore is a lovely drink Alan. I had a few cases of it during lockdown when Adnams had some excellent discounts and free p&p on.

Slightly OT, but I had that flu bug for a few days just after new year.

No lingering effects (a lot of people seem to have a cough as an after effect), but I've seem to have gone off beer.

I've had a few, but not really enjoyed them as I normally would.

It's not a huge problem, of course, especially as I'd planned to have a dryish January, but I wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience?

    First of the evening
Unfortunately I saw the owner of Cloudwater on TV last week. He is struggling with the increase in energy costs. So I am doing my bit to help!

Just had a couple in the Brewdog underneath Waterloo station
Planet Pale, Punk IPA and Hazy Jane.
It’s actually quite a fun bar, (the slide is a nice touch as is the skittles) The beer is passable but there is better out there. Hazy Jane would be my preferred drop.

    A few from the weekend.

    This was very good.
Not too strong nor was sweet as black lagers can be. Just a nice rich toasted flavour.

Not as nice but a better pairing with the souvlaki

A really good stab at a Greek IPA really hoppy and easy to drink.

Beer is really improving in Greece, yes the straw coloured fizzy stuff is prevalent but you can easily get more interesting beers and there is always Mamoz to fall back on, which is a really nice lager.

I had one of those ZeoZ Black last time I was in Kefalonia, a really nice beer, easily as good as similar dark beers you can get here. Cheers, John B4

Lancaster Bomber and Dryneck 99p a bottle in Morrison's. Not my favourites by any means but at that price I couldn't say no.
