Just a Guiness for me. It's a drink I never tried until a week ago but I've now got the taste for it.

I popped into the Mikkeller London bar on Wednesday for a swift half and selected “Do Stuff Together”, their American Pale Ale. Fruity, dry, not too bitter. Very smooth. I’m going to go back tonight.

Thursday night I wanted something different and this Key Lime Pie Sour IPA from Deya Brewing Co certainly lived up to its label. Unusual but very refreshing.

And last night, I popped into my local CAMRA spot for a couple of scoops of real ale. Geeves Clear Cut Pale Ale was fantastic. A dry, hoppy, resinous, bitter pale ale, and only £3.80 a pint in London!

Boo! from Fuzzy Duck was nice as a taster but I found a pint a bit too sweet. Somewhere in there was Parma Violets.

And finally, back home another from Deya to finish the evening off. A much-vaunted collaboration brew with Brooklyn’s Other Half. One of the best IPA’s I’ve had all year, super smooth.

The Champion's lovely and smooth, quite belying it's 7.3% strength.

On this cold, wet night some suitably dark ale is needed.

    Crap bottles of Coors.

    It's not too bad actually.

Probably not in the spirit of the thread though...

I had a bottle of Ghost Ship 0.5% ale tonight.

Smelt great and tasted acceptable for a low alcohol beer.

Will get a few more, I think.

It’s the best low alcohol beer I’ve had so far. Although it helps if you like the original version.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Currently on a US cruise ship. Bizarrely they have draught Newcastle Brown, served by the pint. It's nothing like Dog from a bottle but isn't half bad.

I had some Brown Dog last week, something had gone wrong with the brewing of the Castle Eden for the Dun Cow so my hand was forced. A refreshing change, as they say.

Mmmmm beer. What beer are we drinking tonight?

Of course one has to slog up Side en route to Central Station for the return train to Durham. The Bridge is a very well placed staging post, it would be rude not to pop in. First a porter to restore my spirits from the trek up Side . . .

The downside of today's jaunt was that Fenwicks have moved their bottled beers from the wall shelving to a 4 sided afair in the middle of the department and there was no Smith's stout! There was some empty space there so perhaps it will return. Ho hum, on the train and back to a familiar haunt . . .

Thanks for the heads up. Luckily there is a small shop in Yarm which stocks it, and it's only a short drive from work on a lunchtime. Looks like you've had some tasty ales there!

Holidaying in Curacao. Just realised I bought the ‘Light’ version at 4.1% Can’t it from the 5% I’ve been on all week! Not my normal tipple, much prefer real ale but when in Rome etc. as they say

Bottle / can share with a pal at home tonight and a takeaway while Mrs Me is out with her mates.

Bit of an eclectic mix. We started with Marble’s Metric, then worked through the two DEYA’s, onto the Lindeman’s Framboise for a palate cleanser,
Onto the Cuvee Renee for something funky and sour with Chinese food, and finishing on the West Coast IPA.

    Not particularly cherry-y beer...

    Nice zesty, hoppy beer...

I was very thirsty Alan! ;-) Also, a Stella always brings back the memories of pedalling up Alpe d'Huez in 2008 and the lovely Stellas we had back down below in Bourg d'Oisan after the ride. Happy days . . .

However, back home now, so . . .

Nipped up the Toon to look at something I want to photograph shortly. Such dedication merits a reward IMHO, so down the Dog Leap to Side . . .

. . . then a sharp right to the Crown. Crass stupidity you may think, and indeed it was . . .

Back up Side (not the Dog Leap, great to descend, but . . . ;-) ) and inevitably to the Bridge. Very apt considering it's a pre train pint . . .

Both of today's ales were excellent, each with a nice pronounced flavour and just the right amount of burnt bitterness. I really don't know why people drink Guinness in pubs that serve ales like this.
