After a long and busy week, I've got myself on the settee with beer and TV.

First up is this, a really nice porter from Lidl. They do some really good beers, for the price they probably can't be beaten.

    And we’re off...

Last one of these lovely things. Smooth, fruity, dry but not too bitter.

The four they sell under the Hatherwood name are all excellent, even disregarding the price. Their sourdough boule is rather nice too!

More Cornish fayre. Penultimate tin of this, it’s not bad, but not really hitting the mark for me.

Knife and fork at the ready, it's the three course meal that is Sam Smith's Chocolate Stout.

That's been on in the Vic this week, but hasn't sold well, so reduced to £2.40. Some had commented that it's fruitiness can vary, so I tried a half, and it was nothing like as fruity and cloying as I recalled it from some months ago. I was drinking the Black Bishop straight from the cask, which was waiting to go on, but I'll give the Plum Porter another go if it's still on later today.

We're meeting up with my son at Red House shortly, I'll definitely have another pint if it's on, otherwise it'll be whatever stout they have to offer.

Just enjoying a couple of bottles of Perlenbacher Premium Pils from Lidl.

Not bad for 90p a bottle and helping to numb the pain of what's happening at Gillingham! Fatty Evans and his crew up to their usual dirty tricks!
    Best Regards - Peter

At £1.19 for 500ml you aren't being robbed! The other three are also very good, particularly the Golden Goose. All brewed for Lidl by Shepherd Neame now, formerly by Marstons.

As recommended by Bob of this parish, an excellent flavourful golden ale

Enjoying a Marstons 61 Deep Pale Ale, at 1.6 euro for 500 ml, I can cope, though the local standard lager is typically 1 euro a litre, its cheaper than water.

Nipped up the Toon for an afternoon swally with another retiree pal today. First to the Crown Posada . . .

. . . then up the hill to the Bridge, for porter . . .

    . . . followed by black lager, which was truly delicious . . .

You really are a lucky man Bob, continuing the Lidl theme

Very tasty and totally different from the goose.

Very tasty indeed Alan. I must get around there, I haven't had any of their beers for a while.

Quite a few last night. I shared 1/3rds of all these with some pals from work over the evening with some tapas-y snack food. A very pleasant evening trying new ales and talking nonsense.

How did you find the Harvey's beers? Their Sussex ale is one of my favourites but I am not familiar with their other beers.

The Knots was a very nice Mild, I could imagine sitting in a warm sunny Kentish beer garden and laughing down a few! The Nuptial was OK but I wouldn’t rush back to it. Sweet, relatively strong tasting, hoppy. Skinner’s Heligan Honey is, IMO, a better example of a honey beer.

You’re most welcome. The friend who hosted the evening is from Lewes and had recently been to the brewery shop. You can buy from their online shop but unfortunately only in multiples of 12.

I was at a local beerfest yesterday afternoon into evening, I spent most of our time there drinking darker ales including MCR's Bills Mother and Mighty Oak's Old Man And The Sea.

It's always a pleasure attending such events, not just for the beer but for the banter and general putting the world to rights topics of conversation

“When in Rome do as the Romans do”, well I’m in Miami so it’s Cuban shrimps with black beans, washed down with a Hatuey Cuban style ale. Very palatable too.
