I've sampled the Delapre Dark, Wagtail and Gobbler from Great Oakley so far this evening and I can't fault any of them.

Sunday cold-chain delivery from Cloudwater ahead of their “Meet The Brewer” in-line event with Other Half NYC next week.

Very excited for this. In April I was supposed to be in NYC and had planned an afternoon at OH’s Brooklyn Taproom, amongst other beery visits (Brooklyn Brewery Tap, Singlecut, Top Hops, Carmine St Beers and a few others). I’d planned on bringing a suitcase-worth of US beers home, of stuff that’s just impossible to get here unless someone mules it for you.

Anyway, I’ll enjoy these at my leisure between now and Xmas and topped-up the box to 12 with a few of Cloudwater’s latest hits.

Had a first world emergency earlier, no anchovies at Tesco to put in my puttanesca sauce! Had to divert to Lidl, where they were cheaper anyways, so I got a couple of bottles whilst there. The Golden Goose is gorgeous . . .

Mmmmm beer. What beer are we drinking tonight?

Had these last week, shared Buxton and Vocation/Brew York with eldest , Vocation/B Y one particularly good.

Had new re-branded Horsforth Brewery Black IPA , now got canning line , really like this.

Middle son had this , as it says on the tin strawberry and sour , nice and refreshing.

He talked me into getting this as last one in Jim’s where he works , probably a sharing one!

Had a walk to Woodside Micro-pub ,with son who works at Jim’s ,on Saturday teatime, it specialises in Belgium/German and also Japanese beers , 4 keg lines and bottles.
I had a Earl Grey/Yuzu IPA and son had the Marzen

Wowzers, some great stuff there sir. You’ll have to review that absolute headbanger Impy Stout. Drink it out of port glasses!

I’d have enjoyed that Hofbrau festbier had I joined you in that bar, what a superb little keg selection.

Dark wet nights call for some tasty winter porter.

Slipped these two into the basket at M&S when Mrs Sish wasn't looking.

Meanwhile, last night I tucked-in to these beauties...

Used to be that Cloudwater beers were a bit of a dice-roll quality wise. No more. This is a fantastic core range beer. Low abv but bags of flavour and good texture. You could yawn down loads of these!

And beers from my favourite US brewery, New York’s Other Half. Cracked the can on this one and it was so fruity it reminded me of opening a pack of Jolly Ranchers. Delicious, fruity, smooth IPA.

And this, a little spicier, but gloriously smooth thanks to the Oat Cream. A few more still to go

Now they look good. The M&S in Durham closed a while ago and relocated to a retail park on the other side of town. I'll have to have a ride over, there's a Sainsburys there as well and they have some stouts etc too.

Mmm, those two porters look well worth an expedition to M&S and worthy additions to the beer advent calendar this year.

Mmmmm beer. What beer are we drinking tonight?

Starting the evening with Combined Whimsey by Verdant. It is a crisp and refreshing pale ale (very pale)

Rather nice. Might have to pop up to their tap room one afternoon.

Getting through them this evening - this one is not the best black lager I have tasted.

Update on my earlier post. I most certainly wouldn't recommend this. It was thin and lacked any great distinctive taste. Youngs Chocolate Stout is vastly superior (IMHO).

    Here ends the customer review.

    Tonight’s roll of honour...

Promises, promises. It’s an ok beer, but it doesn’t live up to the billing. Very light, maybe I had it too cold, I dunno, but it’s pretty average.

I’ll declare two biases on the next one.
    1. I supported the Red Elephany Beer Cellar (Truro) crowdfunder that bank-rolled this, and
    2. I’m a Verdant fanboy,
    ... but... it’s a really good beer.

Last of the night is this Oatmeal, Coffee & Cacao stout from Arbor which I picked up at M&S.

Pretty mellow coffee flavour, dark chocolate, both in balance, neither overpowering. Texture more akin to a Porter than a stout, lightly carbonated, hides the 6.9% ABV for sure.

And sadly this wasn't any better. Tasting mostly of cloves, it didn't have a lot of other flavours. Sam Smiths do a Winter Warmer every year that is just so much nicer. One to avoid.

I was genuinely disappointed. I thought I'd try some different beers, at £2.50 a pop I expected perhaps slightly better than my usual choice. Sadly this wasn't to be, but the next time I am at a Sam Smiths stockist I'll be getting some 2020 Winter Warmer and I know I won't be let down.

I haven’t tried that last one you posted, and now won’t!
The Meantime Brewery is 5 streets away from where I live and, whilst I have a local affinity for it, can’t help but feel the quality of their beers has not held up since they were sold to SAB Miller in 2015.

That said, the London Lager and Chocolate Porter remain decent, I wouldn’t bother with anything else of theirs though.

£2.50 gets me the astonishingly good value Duvel Tripel Hop, I might just alternate with the magnificent Trappistes Rochefort 10 and make it a Belgian only calendar this year.

I tried this a few weeks ago
It’s not bad. I have had a lot worse. Not overly coffee which is a plus point for me. It so s potent beer though. I like my pints about 3.5 - 4.5%. More room to try more...

I agree with the sentiments on Mean time, since the sold out to the big boys they don’t seem to have maintained their standards, everything seems to have been brewed or a cost.
    It’s the same for Beavertown.
If you get a chance try a few from Weird Beer they are local to me and are a great bunch of guys producing really good beer in West London.

Me too, I have 1/2’s and Pint pots. They remind me of my Grandad. He’d have a pint of bitter at lunch and pour me a (very weak) bitter shandy 1/2.

I was in Majestic and these cans caught my eye.

Funny how your frontal cortex and opthalmic centre conspire to make a conclusion.

    Now I can't unsee it

heaven knows what "Infinite Piss" tastes like

It actually tastes pretty good... I tried it over the summer and would have it again if a low alcohol beer was in order. It has an apricot stone nose that follows through on the palate, I really enjoyed it.

An early ale for me, starting with a palate cleansing WC DIPA with a pastry stout lined up for later after dinner.
