I wasn't intending on having a beer this evening, but having a cheeky Wainwright whilst sorting a couple of bits out on the computer
Had this on draught a few weeks ago in the Vic, very nice out of a bottle too. The label’s quite apt as not long finished a bike ride . . .

I like Annandale. Had never had any before my brother in law’s fridge suddenly filled up with them (Waitrose or Saino’s purchased I think). Must be decent if it won that award!
Had to pop into town to the bank. Rude not to when in the area . . .

This has been the pick of the beers I've been trying recently. Very drinkable.

That looks a curious drink!
Something traditional for me as I await my Balti Garlic Keema Chilli Lamb.

The Honest Brew fairy’s been again this week...

Tonight’s batch of beauts so far...
A dry, dank, resinous and hoppy session ale. I really like CR/AK and Other Half basically make some of the best craftbeer available on planet Earth right now. I’m almost contemplating flying to New York in October just to go there, Finback, Singlecut and to Decadent up in Westchester!
After that double-dry hopped starter I fancied something light and fruity which would go with spicy chicken burgers. I really enjoy Montauk beers and it’s a place which I have fond connections and memories of. A work colleague bought me a 6-pack over two weeks ago so I raised this one to her.
And what I’m currently drinking as I type this. So. Frickin. Good. Beers like this should almost not exist, but I’m very glad they do. I discovered Decadent Ales by accident when in New York back in April. The work colleague who bought me the Montauk’s lives near their tap, and bizarrely, the friend I was staying with (who incidentally I have the Montauk connection through), took me there and to the amazing Half Time beer shop that shares the same building. I’ve been saving this one since April. It’s huge, smooth, packed with juicy fruit and no way feels like a 9%-er.
Cheers all
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
Had a day out in York and came back with four Sam Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout and a Rhubarb and Custard ale.
If you're in York, spend a few minutes being amazed at the selection of beers, ciders, lagers and spirits from all corners of the earth at The Trembling Madness:

Not a patch on the Northern Monk stuff, but this isn't bad for #5 for 4 cans..

I've supped in the Trembling Madness on occasion, a marvellous establishment! Of course when in York there are many, many fine pubs, but one must visit the Minster Inn and the Blue Bell, two gems. A plus is that they are far apart and one can call in pubs en route for a fortifying sup to keep the body in fettle.
PS. Re the Sam Smith's stout - going up the Toon shortly so will be toting some supplies back.

Pressure Drop are having a great 2019, quality and variety seems to have stepped-up significantly since they switched to canning.
And Arbor always seems to deliver to goods. This is a classic malty, sweet APA.
True, these offer a value entry point into different beer styles, however what I’ve found with this and many other such forays into the supermarket shelves, is that the quality suffers. Sure it’ll be reasonable, but the cost of really good beer is in the hopping and adjuncts and care which can rarely achieved by high outputs.
I find that buying direct from breweries from their online shops or via Eebria gets you a good value:quality compromise, and better than some of these offers.
By example, I buy regularly from Mad Squirrel, Marble, Burning Sky, Verdant and Deya, saving several £’s (often per can) vs other online wholesalers or local craft bottle-shops.
Having said that, I still buy from Honest Brew, Premier Hop and would do from Hoptimism, because their offerings cover the range of breweries and style I like.
Locally I’m very lucky in London, with several craft beer shops within a short drive, bus or train ride from home. I try to support 3 or 4 of them because without them, the scene would be a lot duller.
I try to avoid anything from “big beer” now - which sadly includes home-grown brands like Fourpure, Beavertown, Meantime (my local brewery) and Camden - because of the damage and historical bad practises that some of these companies have done to the global, regional and local markets. I’d rather put my coin in the pockets of small businesses in the U.K., Europe and the US than line the coffers of the global giants.
From Lidl, very nice. Formerly brewed by Marstons, now by Shepherd Neame.

Been in York for a couple of days. Loved some of the local beers. Currently sat in a small old pub in the centre near our reservation for food tonight.
Great pint. Localish being a Harrogate brewer

Parting is such sweet sorrow, the second of my pair from the last sortie up the Toon is leaving tonight. Sigh, another trip to Fenwicks beer dept to buy more, then the horrors of the Bridge and Crown Posada as I return to the railway station. Of course both Newcastle and Durham stations have bars. Then once back in Durham it’s rude to bypass the Vic. Sigh....

One of Aldi’s finest bottles, goes rather well with a bag of toffee popcorn & a re-run of Peaky Blinders.IMG_5702.JPG
