I had the operation on Friday, so sore as hell, but all looking good especially after the staples come out later this week.

    Very nice

First, apologies to those either working (I hope your shifts pass quickly) or incapacitated (best wishes for a speedy recovery for your back). I was out cycling in this heat earlier, and it's proper lathered I am, so without further ado . . .

A different type of thirst inducing heat today, slaving in the kitchen cooking some shakshuka for Mrs Mag and the lasses, had a nice shower, now for a couple of bottles I haven't tried before, IPA first . . .

I like to see a beer served in it's dedicated glass. I was in the marvellous bar upstairs in the Mercato Centrale in Florence a while ago and the barman was most insistent that any beer ordered would have to be served in the glass he proffered. He was of course preaching to the converted, the five beers I had tasted all the better for such treatment.

... and that's the end of my Oncall rota.

Starting with a new favourite, Guinness Milk Stout (bit of a lively head on this, I was a bit eager with anticipation when I poured it out!)

Welcome back to the fold! I’ve been considering that Guinness Milk Stout, I’d be interested in your opinion of it. I enjoyed their West Indian Porter. Slaking my thirst as I type . . .

It proved to be a lovely smooth stout, quite chocolate on the finish. Mrs Sish has distracted my beer drinking by opening some red wine!

I've said before that the Hobgoblin is the best value going at normal price, strength/price wise. Matt68
might like the bottle I've just cracked open, albeit with a litre of lemonade on top . . . ;-)

6.6%. Not a session beer then.

I was given three bottles of Durham Brewery beer at Christmas. I think one was something like 11%. On a beer. Way too strong.

Found this on YouTube. Reminds me of the '80s with my thin grey tie, wedge-cut and ability to sink 10 pints of Camerons Strongarm.

The Durham Brewery is just down the road in Bowburn. I've always found their beers a little on the dry side. Hill Island is an interesting little brewery, tucked away in Fowler's Yard, right behind the indoor market and town hall in the middle of Durham. The owner, Michael, was once stopped by the police wheeling casks on a sackbarrow through town, they thought he was thieving them, but he couldn't drive at the time and was delivering!

I love little side stories like that! I bet the Police thought they had a definite collar when they saw that.

I've now been sidetracked from my beer consumption AGAIN with a Black Russian. Mrs Sish is spoiling me tonight with her mastery of drinks and of looking darned tasty. I may have to succumb. I'll report back.

Something a bit different. Venus and Mars from Black Sheep. A lovely bottle of pale ale indeed. I know it's a school night but I'm only having the one. Honest.

Ta for that. I'll be in Tesco today and will look out for those beers, they seem to tuck things away in odd places so it's likely they have it and I've simply not seen it.

had a few pints of this in one of my favourite little local hull bars tonight (chilli devils - awesome chillis and superb beer) and had to be dragged out sulking like a teenager at the evenings conclusion, what a phenomenal beer!

    SILVER KING

    Alcohol Content: 4.3% ABV
Hop: Lager Malt and American Cascade Hops
    Flavour: CITRUSSY PALE ALE
Consistently popular for fifteen years, Silver King is perhaps Ossett’s best known beer and the winner of many prestigious awards. A simple combination of pale malt and American Cascade hops result in a crisp, dry, refreshing bitter in which the aromas of citrus fruit are pleasingly well balanced.

Looks good, and a good selection there too. I'd have been trying the Nethergate Priory Mild, there's not a lot of places serve mild and I always have it if I find it anywhere.
