This has been one of my favourite darker beers ever since a cold day off wandering around London. I visited a coasy hostelry and had one of these to warm up and another to wash down a steak and kidney pudding. Now there is an idea....

You just reminded me that I have a bottle of Sainsbury's London Porter in the stash. It's brewed for them by Shepherd Neame and very nice it is too.

Back to work tomorrow and also back onto the Oncall rota for a week so thought I'd finish of the festivities with this duo. I'm already a fan of Allendale's gluten-free pale ale (GFPA) so hoping for good things from these two.

Big fan of Firestone and recommend the brewery tour if you’re ever that way. The Pine St salon is a great bar too in Paso Robles.

I'm also an Allendale fan, the Pennine is superb.

I last had their beers in October, which is but a dim and distant memory now, sigh . . .

Cheap date or cheapskate? Who knows, but at £1.09 for a 500ml bottle this fine pair make for another nice locked down locked in slurp. Should be cool enough now . . .

I'm enjoying a first post-covid beer tonight - LayerCake from Brewdog. Some food has tasted the same through Covid but some has tasted mainly of burnt plastic. Coffee has been utterly disgusting and still is today so I'm pleased to say that the beer tastes good, very good.

When I had covid I didn't have a beer for 22 days, even when I started to feel better I could look at a bottle and had no desire to open it. Then one day, bingo! However the virus had no effect on my sense of taste.

Sincerely hoping to be able to go back to California in the next few years. Have saved those as “want to go”

If it works, then all the better. Tasting good?

I've had both those beers and both are excellent

And yes the pictures of the cask beers from The Vic had a similar effect on me.

Very much looking forward to normality and a few beers up north!

Tasted very good indeed! When I go to my "BEERS" gallery on SmugMug to either save or pictures or get a link I do sometimes break down and cry tears of ale when I see what I'm missing, especially on a freezing snowy day like today!

    The weekends ales.

The first three plus the Northern Monk & British Culture Archive DIPA were gifted to me by my sister for my birthday last week. She enlisted Palmer Street Bottle in Frome to send me a mixed 12 case and they did well. Looking forward to the rest that’s currently chilling.

The Misty was another lovely Polish beer from a brewery that’s rapidly becoming a favourite - Trzech Kumpli - and the last two were delicious gob treats from the West Country. Padstow Brew came via Red Elephant in Truro and the LHG IPA from a recent mixed-6 of Left Handed Giants current crop.

You could say it was a decent couple of evenings work!

Was out scavenging for food earlier, so whilst abroad got 3 of each for a total of £6.54, it would have been rude not to, . . .

I've just finished a week as the Oncall engineer for our site. Rewarding myself with a starter of Ease Up IPA, followed by a couple of dark ones. Not in work tomorrow so may well have nice lie in.

Neon Raptor's Passing Piranhas is a long time favourite of mine, here's its big brother.

Massive Piranhas Blackberry, Raspberry and Red Currant Imperial Lassi Gose, and its smashing.

    Evening all.

Started off with a sneaky can of Thornbridge Jaipur on my evening walk, then straight to business.

    Fish n chips with this...

Then the first of this years Putty. Bought 6 of these to see how it develops over the year. Not as green as 2020, a touch vegetal on the nose and super fruity and juicy in the gob, with a dank resinous finish. Wallop!!

And then this naughty bunch for desert...

If anyone missed out on the Adnam's discount code mentioned earlier then WELCOME15 seems to be a permanent offer. They sometimes have free postage, which is a better saving. I'm down to a mere brace after this one so time to get ordering . . .

Pucker up for the first course.

Then smashed those tastebuds with a full-on hop assault from Gravity Well vs a salty-sweet Hawaiian pizza... which I’d love to show you, but tapatalk says I’ve reached my limit for the month. So no more pics til Feb. ?

A wee heads up. I was looking on Amazon for some porter or stout bargains as I have free postage via a Prime trial and Hawkshead looked good value at 8x500ml bottles for £18. Took a look on the Hawkshead site to check it out and it's on offer for £12, so ordered 2 cases, + £5 postage - so £29 for 16x500ml bottles.

It's very good. I see you're in Cumbria, Hawkshead Brewery have their porter on offer for £12 for 8x500ml bottles, free delivery if within 20 miles of their premises at Staveley (the one by Kendal). I was forced to order 16 bottles to defray the £5 postage.

Will have to try it out (and the Porter seeing as it's local) you've now made me have to drink this😁
