Thread: New skydweller?

  1. #51
It's the only time I can think of where I've thought one would look better without the fluting; a DJ without though always looks lacking to me.

  2. #52
I can’t help but feel that this will go the way of the Milgauss GV and will eventually trade at under retail. Thinking outside the watch enthusiasts community I can’t see it having the same appeal to the mass market compared to a Submariner or even a Datejust. I loved the Skydweller in pictures but when I tried it on the wrist I found it bulbous and even in the window of watch club I thought it looked big even compared to the likes of the sd43.

Can’t see that happening at all - it’s a lot of watch for the money (£10,600) in comparison to other watches and more relevantly the precious metal options. I can see these trading over rrp for some time to come. I accept though it will be a marmite watch - personally even though I’ve only tried it on fleetingly I love it.

Some might say the YM II is as well but they’re under RRP now (although I appreciate the price point is slightly higher). Think unless it’s a standard Rolex sports model then after the Basel hype/ first deliveries then the premium soon falls away

    The YM2 is

    a) very specialist
    b) a car crash for anyone not competing in a regatta

Whilst the SS SkyDweller might be a bit marmite for folk it does sort of bridge the gap between the professional range and the DJ range. The caliber and setting is a thing of beauty.

Popped in to a couple of AD's to check out the skydweller.... As expected..... none, not even a precious metal version. On my travels I spotted a pre owned one at Chisholm Hunter. Listed at £15.5k. Big hike over list.

I was also told by the ADs that list were closed on Lv sub, blnr, skydweller, Daytona and sea dweller. Surprised at all but the Daytona.

Nah, it's quite underpriced along with the Daytona, and that too makes it so appealing. Enjoy it.

Rolex will control supply of all these models to ensure premiums remain, just as on the other populars.

I believe the same. The only way would be to seriously restrict the numbers enough to hurt potential sales. I hope I’m wrong, as the watch was a very brave move and I love the ease of the set up compared to most other solutions.

Although I’m a definite buyer, at some stage.
It's just a matter of time...

    .
I dont think its very specialist, just a largely pointless complication if you dont sail, but if you need to time intervals or boil eggs upto 10 minutes then its quite cool really.
Love mine, the blue and white works really well together, I have to admit it would be nicer without the Ychtmaster 11 on the bezel, but then that just adds to the quirkiness of it, nobody knows what it means anyway outside of enthusiasts.

I love watches but in reality the complications on most watches are pretty useless. We all know a mobile phone performs any of the functions far more efficiently. The mechanism in the YM II, regardless of how specialist you may think it is, is still impressive.

I have GMTs but am perfectly capable of adding or subtracting two numbers of or equal to 12. Similarly, the date is helpful but I don’t need a reminder of the month or day of week. For me it’s the mechanism that makes a difference regardless of the usefulness of the complications.

Guess what I’m saying is the usefulness of the skydweller does not make it more attractive to me than the YM II. Anyhow that’s just my opinion.

You make a really fair point. My point was that the YM2 has never sung to me as I couldn’t ever see myself using the complication it offers.

With the GMT and SkyDweller the ability to flip the hour end are very useful for world travel and the Daytona for timing the quarters at my kiddies football match.

I'm in agreement regarding the fluted bezel, it is overly brash but it does have to rotate to set the various functions of the watch, I'm unsure if this would work as well with a smooth bezel.

The only 'discount' I received was a Pizza Express, American hot on romana base with rocket salad and a double espresso from AD chap, plus some enlightening conversation on watches.....

Reduce your expectations regarding sales discounts. Lol. Good luck.

Ah yes, of course. Fluting may be the most discreet way of providing a bit of grip - can't imagine knurling looking too dashing on one of these!

Some people have no sense of humour

However, I will buy a Sky-dweller and I will buy one with a discount.

There are a couple discounted in the Watchfinder secret sale at the moment.

Obviously offloading the hundreds they bought at 50% off already then ;)

Never mind "hello 2018" more like, "hello, er....., um.....some time never....."

One of my Rolex ADs had the black dial SS Skydweller plus a couple of variants of the PM ones in stock last week when I visited. They had had a blue dial one in stock but that had sold quickly. I have no doubt I could get a discount because of my relationship with them but the watch does not sing to me.

The one that appeals the most is the steel/gold blue dial version. This is probably one Rolex that I would happily wait however long it takes to get one. I do have one concern and that is, what the servicing costs for these look like?

To me a Sky Dweller is a game over watch. It could be that perfect one watch or part of a small 2-3 watch collection.

Well, a quick chat with Rolex at Heathrow suggests that they may well have one on my next trip back to Oz - happy days, and at a better discount than I would have been happy with from a U.K. land side

My AD offered me the TT black and white.... really liked them and was very tempted. Didn't quite step over the line though. Preferred the white. Not bad at £12.6 when compared to SS

I'm convinced the AD's in my area are either rubbish or just don't like the cut of my jib.

I can't even get on a list let alone buy one.

Got the call today that I am top of the list on the TT steel and yellow gold, white dial (i put my name down for all of the dial options) and its ready to pick up if I want it and I really do!

Unfortunately just bought a watch last week so unlikely going to be able to justify it financially which is a shame, likely be years before one turns up out here that I can get my hands on.

Has anybody bought a TT model yet on here?

As above I was offered both a couple of weeks ago and I was just a walk in......I may be wrong but I suspect these won't be hard to find. What I do think is the TT are comparitively cheap when compared to the SS. I reckon the TT will see an above average Rrp increase compared to others in the range.

The blue dial SS is the current kiddy. Others are pretty cog.

Don't worry they're going to be sitting in windows before long, discount won't be a problem either.

Suspect this will be the case for the TT ones, as it was for PM’s. The SS models will have supply throttled like the Professional watches IMHO.

Been intrigued by the SS skydwellers recently. Are these still rarer than hens teeth? My local AD has only seen 2 black dial ones since launch.

I think they are quite rare still.

The more I look at it the more I like the white dial. Is slightly off white looking at it from different angles.

Found an AD with a TT black in stock - so may pop in to take a look. The engineering is exceptional in this watch and think its great value given the complications.

Was in the AD today, they only got the 2 SS to date of which i was lucky enough to get one. They expect them when they see them.

In answer to a point about re the "white" dial, looking at it from an angle the inner 24hr ring is definitely white whereas the main dial has a more silver hue to it, they are 2 different colours, not as much of a distinction as the WG version but a distinction. I have to say i love it.

Also was told today that 1st March 20% increase on the PP 5711 and 5712.

Really 20%?!? Surely they can't justify a 20% in one year??
