They did some probabilities on the likelihood of other intelligence in the universe, as a whole, as well as other lifeforms, intelligent or not in our galaxy itself. The probabilities came out very high relative to numbers of stars and gallaxies.
Perhaps they are here to purchase SS sports model Rolxes. With at least eight arms / tentacles per alien visiting, it would certainly explain the shortage.
