    Steinhart expand the39mm range

Well this one has all the hallmarks of a best seller - one of there most popular models the OVM, recently relaunched with its orig black dial again.....seems will very shortly be available in 39mm.

I think regardless of opinion that this will sell like hot cakes

It's a shame about the vintage lume. I get the whole aged, faux vintage thing, but I don't like it. Plus it's only on the lume, why not add a few dinks to the case for that added distressed look. I'd rather have a watch that looked new, albeit an old design.

Eddie has it right, apart from (annoyingly) then PRS-82.

I think it looks really nice for the cost in 39mm.

If they come with a lumed bezel I'd be all over it!

I received the email about it this morning
I like the idea and had hoped they would one day make a smaller version more in keeping with the original.
I almost pressed the buy button and then realised it looks exactly like all my other watches ;-)
It's a nice idea though, I hope they do a version with a plexi crystal

I really like that, you don't need to wear a clock on your arm to tell the time.
39mm is still a good size, go back 20 years and it was a large watch.

Pity they did not sort those lugs out, a nice downward curve would have been good.

I thought these 39mm OVM’s were a limited Gnomon run hence the numbering on the caseback

Looks like 90 from the gnomon link . I wouldn’t worry it will probably be added to the regular run of their ocean line when they realise the market for smaller watches is huge .

Shame they couldn't make the number on the case back any bigger.

No it's 300. The first 90 get to choose their number after that it's random allocation. But I doubt the 300 will take more than a day to sell. As for the curved lugs or lack of, I think the smaller case size and lug to lug length make that a lot less of an issue than the 42mm ocean case.

There's an idea. In a couple of decades we could buy the tenth reissue with "7th watch in space - never approved by NASA" emblazoned all over it. Surprised it's not been done before tbh...

The case and bracelet always put me off the Steinharts.39mm and a tapered bracelet will make it a great watch, and a slim case too.

The same size tapering as the other 39mm ocean ones then?

It’s Annoying the way it’s a limited edition ! Just release it as a regular line instead of those pearly white, pink or blue 39’s they have on the regular . Surely to god it would sell better than them ?

Those pink and blues etc are selling well apparently - seems the ladies have discovered steinhart. I haven't tried one of their 39s but will report how it fares when mine arrives on Tuesday.

I bought a pink one and I wear it regularly for work. My size is perfect and my only criticism is that the bezel action wasn’t as good as on the 42mm OVR. I just wish they’d release a 39mm Ocean One Vintage GMT

They have done a number of LE models but with very little info or clarity, sadly. I'm fine with the concept behind it but at least be clear and upfront about where they are being released and by whom etc. It's deeply frustrating at times.

The 39mm is a no brainer across much of the range in my opinion. It just works.

There are guys out there who would wear the pink ones. Let's just say they don't dress like you or I.

Was it my OVM at the get together that put you on to Steinhart?

  32. #32
This place is terrible...... why have I just ordered one of these ???

I hope I just get 1, as Gnomon have sent me a dozen identical confirmation order emails !!

What is the duty position on these ? Will DHL send me a bill ?

No it was steinhart got me into watches - owned a bunch, then sold most and bought dearer shinys, but have now gone full circle and whilst keeping the dearer shinys I've started going back to the steinharts again. They're just so good on many levels

As a 7 inch wristed person I think I may well be chopping in my 42mm Ocean 1. I like it but it is positively chunky and 39mm is about bang on for me.

  37. #37
OP - Thanks for the heads up as I have ordered one.

I have been waiting for 39mm for a while. I sold a 42mm with hesilite glass and missed it, but I was slightly too big.

Steinhart produce wonder watches for the money. Just take a look at the IWC Tribute to Mark XI at nearly 4k (around 3.3k grey market or with a discount). It has a top Sellita movement but can it really be at rrp over £3500 more than this Steinhart. I had had Steinhart & IWC and while IWC is ahead in quality, but really they push the price as much as possible for not much more.

This saves me spending 10k or on a 40 year old Rolex as I want the look and Rolex do not produce anything close to the beauty they did years ago in my opinion. I just love the look of this Steinhart. Total bargain.

Good little number for the aspiring spy

No plans for a 39mm vintage red after a reply email from Steinhart direct to myself.

Until it happens that is ... a chap on watchesuseek asked via email a week before actual release if the 39mm OVM was on the cards . No plans they said ...then boom here it was.

Ok so it arrived. First off I'm a bit of a steinhart fan as you prob know , but I'll give my honest appraisal of it now.
First up the size - at first glance it's not small - only when held alongside an ocean 42 that the difference is apparent. Size is perfect imho, so 10/10 for that. Crown engages and disengages precisely and with a positive feel so 10/10 there too. Lume is great, falling a little shy of sumo and Pelagos levels but a solid 8/10. Dial is a deep matte black and works well with the vintage lume colour 10/10 for that. The bezel is my first disappointment-the 42 version bezel was fine for the price but mine on the 39 has what I would call "significant play" when you push it the wrong direction, so sadly I'm only giving that a 4/10. Crystal is lovely and the shorter Lug to lug length definitely is an improvement on the wrist over the 42 version. The bracelet is nice and very comfortable with a 20/16 taper but the clasp feels a little "tinny" and no divers extension 6/10.

Overall I'm happy with it, but the bezel play is very annoying particularly as I haven't had that on a steinhart to any great degree before. If you've held a Ginault ocean rover, then you wouldn't buy this, but at just over 40% of the cost of the Ginault I'm sure you would like this. Ofc it's a strap monster btw. Be interested to hear others views on it

Great pics Rusty , tell you what that tapered bracelet seems to go on forever. So much so it appears to taper in and taper out . Anyway great acquisition. I’d be a little unhappy myself with the bezel play if you’ve experienced no trouble with the 42mm. I wonder why these new 39 oceans have this tinniness and bezel play? I’ve watched a few videos on YouTube and the same issue has been reported by the 39mm ceramic black That’s a bit disappointing but overall sounds like a solid watch for the money. Is it a keeper ..or are you selling lol ?

I had the same bezel play on my Ocean 39 Green. Seems to be a poor design flaw. It never bothered me though, once in place it did sit tightly.

Just out of curiosity Rusty did you have to pay import and handling fees on top of the $499? I’m guessing you did and it’s what’s putting me off buying one.
